"This Just Happened At Home Depot...
And Americans Are Done"
The shelf price and the register price no longer have to agree. That is the whole story, and everything else in this video follows from it. What that looks like in practice: a dishwasher delivered on the scheduled day by a crew that did not bring the parts to install it - and then the wrong dishwasher entirely. A set of chairs reordered five times and arriving the wrong colour every time, with a manager explaining that the replacements cannot even be ordered until the wrong ones are back in the store. A $589 ladder. A $260 delivery that arrived shorter than the man who bought it. Plywood sold for roofing that warped in twenty minutes of drizzle. An extended protection plan that turned out to be a phone number nobody answers. A refrigerator that stopped working three months in and has now been broken for eight, with hundreds of dollars of groceries thawing in it. A Bosch laser level that rang up thirty dollars over the price on the store's own website - and a refusal to match it. A price that climbed by four hundred dollars while a price match was being processed. And a kitchen floor that cost $3,250 to repair after the installers flooded it. The person in the apron cannot fix it, and usually wants to. The policy that decided your afternoon was written by somebody who will never stand in that aisle.
So none of it is you being difficult at the till - it is a store that stopped absorbing its own mistakes and started handing them to the customer. One habit, and it costs nothing: photograph the tag before you walk to the register. Just the tag, on your phone, while you are standing there. In most states the posted price is the price they are obliged to honour, and a photograph settles in ten seconds what otherwise takes forty minutes and a manager. For anything delivered or installed, photograph it before the crew leaves the driveway. Beyond that you can vote with your feet. The independent yards are usually not as cheap and frequently not as convenient - and they will still fix it, because the name on the sign is theirs."
