"Our Simulacrum Economy"

"Our Simulacrum Economy"
by Charles Hugh Smith

"Readers once routinely chastised me for over-using simulacrum to describe our economy and society. The problem is this word perfectly describes the hollowed-out, rigged economy and social order we inhabit and so synonyms don't quite cut it: it's not the same as simulation or imitation or counterfeit. My use (or over-use) dates back to the 2009 publication of my book "Survival+", which included a chapter titled Simulacrum and the Politics of Experience. I use simulacrum to describe a carefully constructed representation of a once-authentic system that is intended to shape our behavior to suit the interests of those constructing the simulacrum.

The simulacrum has the look and feel of the once-authentic system but it's rigged to benefit the few whose interests are better served by the simulacrum than they could ever be served by an authentic system. As I wrote in "Survival+:" A simulacrum is used to distort a reality that, once revealed, would cause the target audience to act in ways that would not serve the interests of those deploying the simulacrum.

The point of a simulacrum is to mimic an authentic system realistically enough so nobody notices it's rigged to benefit the few at the expense of the many. This is different from a simulation - for example, a flight simulator - that models the actual experience. It's also not a faux copy or counterfeit of the authentic system; it is a replacement that's real in every way.

French Postmodernist Jean Baudrillard's 1981 book "Simulacra and Simulation" attempts to differentiate Simulacra and Simulation by noting that a simulacrum is not a copy of an original (i.e. a counterfeit) because the original is no longer accessible. As a result, the simulacrum becomes not just real but hyper-real.

For an example, consider capitalism which in its classical form is the risking of capital to generate financial and social gains that were not possible in a pre-capital economy. The labor and materials needed to construct a major canal, for example, were beyond the reach of villages or even towns, and so their economies remained localized and poor due to the inability to reach distant, more lucrative markets. Once capital could be assembled in sufficient size, the localized, fragmented economies were unified by the canal, and commerce expanded exponentially as a result, benefiting everyone with access to the canal: laborers, farmers, craftspeople, traders and those who risked the money to construct the canal.

Contrast this authentic form of capitalism with the monopoly-finance-state version we inhabit, a simulacrum of authentic capitalism that retains enough superficial similarities to the original that the vast majority of participants don't even realize that their experience of this simulacrum is entirely different from an experience of authentic capitalism.

Rather than draw benefits from this hyper-real monopoly-finance-state version, the vast majority of participants are exploited, as the value of their labor and capital is extracted by the simulacrum version of "capitalism" which divvies up the extracted value between the monopolies/cartels who control most of the valuable economic activity, the financial sector that parasitically feeds on the real economy and the state, which extracts wealth to feed its vast network of dependents, enforcers and minders of the entire system.

In this hyper-real simulacrum, a vast fortune is never more than a couple of stock gambles, TikTok clips or YouTube videos away. Or for those wary of the casino, the enormous mortgage taken on for life promises access to the riches of the Everything Bubble. In the hyper-real casino, everyone has access to the terrors of losing, but only a few know the joys of the rigged games that guarantee a few big winners by design and a fortunate few who stumbled into the game at a propitious moment.

As Baudrillard anticipated, the authentic original version of capitalism is no longer accessible. The simulacrum that we call capitalism is rigged, and the mechanisms are so cleverly obscured that the vast majority of participants willingly allow themselves to be exploited, disempowered or marginalized because they have no experience or even reference point to the authentic original version, as it no longer exists. Everything they know and experience - the economic models, symbols, signifiers, narratives, adverts, etc., and their own conceptions of value and agency, have all been so thoroughly debauched that they have no idea that the authentic original has been lost.

The problem is our system only survives by cannibalizing its weakest parts, and once they've been consumed, the system can no longer sustain itself and it expires. Simulacra are not fake, but they are profoundly unstable and prone to collapse. Everything gluing the monopoly-finance-state system together is unraveling due to the excesses of extraction and exploitation the system has perfected.

Once the rigged system collapses, we'll have an opportunity to assemble an authentic economy, a new original that isn't rigged to benefit the few at the expense of the many. This is what I discuss in my book "A Hacker's Teleology: Sharing the Wealth of Our Shrinking Planet"

"Apocalyptic Scenario: Iran Is Threatening To Attack Oil Producing Facilities, Undersea Internet Cables, Desalination Plants And The Dimona Nuclear Reactor"

by Michael Snyder

"Iranian leaders are making all sorts of apocalyptic threats. If they are able to follow through on even some of those threats, the Middle East will soon be thrown into a state of complete and utter chaos. As you will see below, the U.S. and Israel are preparing for a massive campaign of airstrikes on Iran. The Iranians are very well aware of this, and they are pledging to attack oil producing facilities, undersea Internet cables, international airports, desalination plants and the Dimona nuclear reactor in response. If Iran is not bluffing, we really could be facing an apocalyptic scenario in the Middle East.

On Monday, we learned that two U.S. officials just told CNN that the military is ready to hit Iran really hard once President Trump gives the order…"US forces in the Middle East are prepared to launch new, potentially major, military operations against Iran “within 96 hours of receiving” an order from President Donald Trump, according to two US officials.

Sufficient forces are now deployed in the region to carry out the potential attacks, the sources said. The scope of new US military operations would likely go beyond efforts to simply “mow the lawn” or maintain the status quo by striking radars, launchers and other Iranian assets that can be quickly reconstituted - as has been the case since Trump halted full combat operations earlier this year, the sources added.

“It will be a big effort,” one of the officials told CNN. That view has been echoed by other current and former US officials familiar with internal military planning discussions — some of whom say it is a question of when, not if, Trump will issue a go-order. They believe it could come any time before the end of the year, though most likely after the US midterm elections."

To me, this feels like a story that was leaked on purpose. I think that the Trump administration wanted Iran to read this. Once the USS Theodore Roosevelt arrives next month, we will have three aircraft carriers in the region…Two US carrier strike groups, led by the USS George Washington and USS George H.W. Bush, are already operating in the region. A third, led by the USS Theodore Roosevelt, departed San Diego in late September and is heading toward the Middle East. Its arrival is expected in the coming weeks, with earlier reports pointing to November.

An amphibious readiness group led by the USS Makin Island is also heading to the region with more than 2,000 Marines from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The deployment, alongside the carrier movement, is expected to add approximately 9,000–10,000 sailors and Marines to the regional force.

The USS Boxer amphibious readiness group is already operating near the Strait of Hormuz. The expanded deployments come as the US continues its military operations and extends the presence of forces and equipment in the region.

The U.S. midterm elections are on November 3rd. I know that there are people that disagree with me, but I still think that new airstrikes on Iran will not occur until after the midterms. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted them to begin earlier, but President Trump was reportedly able to persuade him to wait…Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing to carry out new attacks against Iran, but US officials have requested he delay until the Trump administration is ready to conduct joint operations, according to two US officials and an Israeli security source. “Netanyahu really wanted and tried to convince Trump for a joint attack in Iran before the elections, and Trump did not give a green light,” the Israeli security source told CNN.

On Tuesday, we shall see if Netanyahu gets another term or not. Israeli voters are about to go to the polls, and it appears that it will be another tight election. Yesterday, Netanyahu shared an AI-generated image of Tel Aviv being destroyed by a nuclear weapon…Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday posted an AI-generated image depicting a nuclear explosion in Tel Aviv, warning the public just two days before the election that voting for anyone other than him could expose Israelis to the danger of a “second Holocaust.”

Netanyahu was sharing the words of Yuval Bloomberg, a right-wing activist with roots in the tech sector who once wrote a book against the Oslo Accords. The post by Bloomberg, written last week, included the AI image of the large mushroom cloud rising above Tel Aviv as the city burned from a nuclear blast. Israel faces a “real and tangible existential threat,” the post shared by Netanyahu said. Netanyahu considers the conflict with Iran to be a war for survival.

The Iranians also view this as a war for survival, and they are prepared to pull out all the stops if they are attacked…Iran will strike oil facilities, undersea cables, data centers and AI facilities across as many as seven countries in the Gulf in the event of a fresh US-Israeli attack, Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s supreme national security council, has said.

Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to Mohammad Ghalibaf, the hardliner who led Iran’s negotiations with the US to end the conflict between the two countries, said Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed in principle on an attack, but could not guarantee a successful outcome. He added: “We see the next conflict as an existential threat. The third war in two years means a threat to existence. Our strategy is ‘zero red lines’.” Mohammadi said: “We break the temporal and spatial dimensions of the conflict. The war will continue longer and in a wider geographical area than the enemy anticipates.”

If there are “zero red lines”, no target will be off limits and the Iranians could conceivably use everything in their arsenal. Iranian officials have put out a list of potential targets, and desalination plants all over the region are on that list…
Desalination is the most important source of drinking water for many countries in the region. I asked Google to give me specific percentages, and they were higher than I had anticipated…
Qatar: Over 99%
Bahrain: Over 90%
Kuwait: 90%
Oman: 86%
Saudi Arabia: 70%
Israel: 50%
United Arab Emirates (UAE): 42%
Previously, attacking desalination plants had been a “red line” that Iran would not cross. But now all bets are off.

The Iranians are also threatening to strike Israel like we have never seen before. As I discussed yesterday, Ebrahim Azizi is telling us that it will “take less than an hour” to render Israel “uninhabitable”… Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, wrote in Hebrew on his social media account that any action against Iran’s security and national interests would make the occupied territories uninhabitable in less than an hour. “Know that in the event of any action against our security and national interests, making the occupied territories uninhabitable will take less than an hour,” Azizi stressed.

One of the targets that Iran has threatened to strike in Israeli territory is the Dimona nuclear reactor…
Striking an active nuclear reactor is a “red line” that nobody in the world has been willing to cross up to this point. If the Iranians were to actually severely damage or destroy Dimona, that would create a major nuclear emergency in Israeli territory. Needless to say, the war would go to an entirely different level at that stage.

There had been hope that some sort of a diplomatic breakthrough could be achieved when top officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey visited Iran today…Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, Pakistani Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and the chief of National Intelligence Organization of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin held a meeting with the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) secretary Major General Mohsen Rezaei and President Masoud Pezeshkian as well as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The meeting was held in Saadabad Palace in the north of the Iranian capital.

Unfortunately, the Iranians made it very clear in advance that their nuclear program would not be on the agenda. Iran is never going to make the nuclear concessions that the Trump administration is seeking. So there will be more war.

All of the preparations have been made, and both sides have itchy trigger fingers. Up to this point, both sides have been able to steadily escalate matters without causing the entire region to erupt in flames. But one of these days someone will push things too far, and then we really will have an apocalyptic scenario on our hands."

"Prepare Now! The World Is
Getting Ready For A State Of Emergency"
"Are you prepared for extreme weather, a food shortage, a cyber attack - or just prices that keep climbing? Most Americans aren't, and experts say waiting any longer is the mistake. The UK government just told every household to prepare for emergencies and attacks in new guidance released today, and what's happening inside the United States may be even bigger. In this report we break down the new warning, why the energy crisis could become a food security crisis, what ready.gov and FEMA actually say you need, and the water math almost nobody gets right. We also cover the grocery hack in Europe that spoiled an entire store's food, why a cyber attack overseas can still empty shelves here, and the 72-hour window on the Iran decision."

"The Truth About Your Job Security
(And Why You Need a Backup)"
"Microsoft just offered 60,000 of its own employees a voluntary buyout - and it's the clearest sign yet that no paycheck is bulletproof anymore. Americans are already reacting. Not by cancelling subscriptions, but by taking on side hustles just to cover the basics. A new survey found nearly one in four Canadians and half of Gen Z now have a side hustle, and the average one runs about 13 hours a week - that's a second job. In this video I break down what the Microsoft buyout actually means (if every eligible employee took it, the company would shrink by 27%), why economists are calling this a "low hire" labor market, and the four side hustles worth starting right now."

"7 Foods To Stockpile Before Winter -
Here's Exactly How Much You Need"
"Grocery prices aren't done climbing. Here are the 7 foods worth buying before winter - plus the exact amount experts say each family should have on hand. Americans shouldn't panic-buy groceries. But we should prepare - because the pressure on food prices isn't letting up. In this video I break down the seven foods worth stocking up on right now, how much to buy, how long each one actually lasts, and what's driving the price risk heading into winter. This isn't a doomsday scenario. It's the same thing I've been saying for months: an affordability crisis moves faster than your paycheck, and the cheapest way to protect your grocery budget is to buy at today's prices instead of next year's. Building a food storage plan now is a money decision before it's anything else. Which of these is already in your pantry? And what did I miss - outside of water? Tell me in the comments."

Todd Hayen, "Empty Calories"

"Empty Calories"
by Todd Hayen

"It feels to me that nearly everything we consume these days is not only empty calories, meaning none of it adds nutritious sustenance, but in fact is detrimental to physical, psychic, and spiritual health. But, for the moment, let’s just stick with the empty calorie idea - meaning nearly everything we take in is like eating sawdust.

Think about it. TV, movies, video games, YouTube crap, AI slop, TikTok, Facebook, X, Quarter Pounders, Big Macs, Pepsi, Pizza, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, football, basketball, pickleball, on and on and on and on. Sure, here and there might be an inspiring football game that isn’t just about moving the ball across the field, but about teamwork, camaraderie; maybe you could say the same about a pickleball game, an activity with a close friend, out in the air, the sun, etc. And maybe you find a decent film, about something meaningful and moving. But it isn’t often, my shrew friend, it isn’t often.

There was a time when people entertained themselves with art, not just sensory stimulation. Composers of symphonies, ballets and operas were the superstars of the day. Their work was adored and revered. People found meaning and deep insight from the works of Beethoven, Stravinsky, Monet and Picasso.

The biggest difference in the way people approached such things back then was that they stimulated something more than the body. We’ve all heard the phrase “mind, body, spirit.” Today we are only concerned about feeding the body - bodily sensations. There was a time when people also stimulated the mind and spirit. The body is easily satisfied with sensation. Eating a pizza, or a Big Mac, hits certain sensate points that eating a cauliflower does not. Leave that up to sugar, carbs, and other “stimulating but not healthy” substances. We obviously see the same in drugs and alcohol. Stimulate, stimulate - that is the name of the game.

The body also responds radically to thrills, danger, and physical risks. Although most people will now avoid anything that may cause harm or suffering, they are still attracted to things that may appear to create harm and suffering - like video games, horror and action movies, virtual reality games, and live sporting events.

There is currently very little interest in anything that stimulates the mind or the soul. There is a bit more attention paid to the mind than to spiritual endeavors, but not much more. Both are largely ignored. But what is ignored almost entirely are things that don’t seem to fit in any of these categories. Things that may be labelled superstitious, ritualistic, or just plain odd.

I just recently read about tying ribbons around piano legs in Victorian times. For whatever objective reason this happened, it seems to be an example of a ritualistic action that happened “just because.” The reason I find this important is because this action, and many more similar to it, would stimulate an inner system that lay somewhere between the mind and the heart.

That system doesn’t run on dopamine hits or on arguments. It runs on participation - on doing something that is older than you, slightly unnecessary by modern standards, and aimed at a layer of experience that is neither pure sensation nor pure thought. The piano-leg business, even if the popular story of sexual panic turns out to be mostly satire that got out of hand (that the bare legs of a piano is sexually inappropriate), still points at the habit of treating ordinary objects as if they carried a little more meaning than their function required. You drape the furniture, or you don’t. Either way, the gesture itself is the thing.

Consider a few others that used to occupy the same territory. In parts of Britain and New England, when someone in a household died, a person would go out to the beehives, knock gently, and tell the bees. Sometimes they draped the skeps in a scrap of black. The formula was short and almost domestic: the master is dead, but don’t you leave. Fail to do it, and the bees might swarm, or stop making honey, or simply die. No one needed a peer-reviewed study to justify the walk to the hives. The act acknowledged that the bees were part of the household’s continuity, not just livestock, and that the boundary between the living and the dead was worth a small ceremony. It was neither a thrill nor an analysis. It was an attention paid to something intermediate.

Or take the old shoes found bricked into the walls, chimneys, and eaves of houses from the late medieval period well into the nineteenth century. A single worn shoe - often a child’s - placed where it would never be seen again. The later rationalizations talk about trapping witches or evil spirits that couldn’t reverse once they entered the shoe. Whether anyone still believed that literally by the time the practice was common is almost beside the point. The gesture was the concealment itself: an ordinary object enlisted to hold a threshold. You didn’t do it for the sensory pleasure of the act, and you didn’t do it because a logical proof demanded it. You did it because the house, and the people in it, seemed to require the mark.

Stopping the clocks when someone died belongs in the same family. The hands were halted at the hour of death; the mirrors were covered or turned to the wall. Practical reasons existed - recording the time, preventing vanity during mourning - but the deeper register was the deliberate pause. Time and reflection were suspended not to create a spectacle and not to solve a problem, but to mark that ordinary sensation and ordinary thought were, for a while, insufficient. The house itself was put into a different mode.

None of these acts were free of fear, status, or exclusion. Sin-eating, in which a poor man was paid to eat bread and salt that had rested on the corpse and thereby take on the dead person’s sins, is an example that makes the darker edge plain. Yet even there, the community treated the physical gesture as capable of carrying a spiritual load. The point for us is not that we should revive any of these things. The point is that they once occupied a category modern empty-calorie culture has largely abandoned: actions whose value lay in the doing, the continuity, the enigmatic, and the recognition of an intermediate layer rather than in immediate sensory response or rational, mind, justification. Or doing them for some unknown, mysterious satisfaction they may have brought. This is more coming from a consciousness of the heart rather than a consciousness of the intellect, or even more base, a consciousness of the body and sensations.

That layer I am talking about - call it the psyche’s need for enacted meaning, or simply the space between mind and heart - does not get fed by scrolling, by the next quarter-pounder, or by another round of simulated danger. It gets fed, when it gets fed at all, by gestures that are slightly unnecessary, slightly traditional, and aimed at something that cannot be fully reduced to either the body or the mind, or even the spirit. We used to have more of them. We have fewer now. The intake of empty calories keeps coming."

"The Non-Obvious Anatomy of a Slow Collapse: How Economic Decline Reshapes Nations, Concentrates Wealth, and Paves the Way for a New Order"

by Milan Adams

"Debt is a promise dressed as a number, and the rich world has spent four decades making promises its productive capacity cannot sustain. Global borrowing has passed three hundred trillion dollars, while American federal debt alone exceeds Forty trillion, with interest payments now outstripping the entire defense budget. Yet the real concern lies not in the size of these figures but in what they reveal about the direction of the economy. In 2022 and 2023, the American money supply contracted for the first time since the Great Depression, an unusual reversal that suggests the economic engine is beginning to run backward. Nothing detonated. There was no sudden banking crisis or dramatic collapse to signal that something fundamental had changed. The system simply began to falter, and the significance of that shift is easy to miss precisely because it happened without a defining moment.

Most discussions of economic breakdown revolve around the familiar symptoms: jobs disappear, prices climb, markets tumble, and savings dwindle. These are the immediate consequences, the first act of a crisis that has already received more than enough attention. The deeper changes take longer to emerge and are far less obvious. They surface in places economists rarely examine closely, from the trust between neighbours and the stability of family life to the human body’s capacity to endure chronic stress. They also shape the explanations people reach for when their lives no longer work as they once did. A partial collapse - a prolonged, grinding downturn rather than a sudden economic shock - does not destroy a society in a single blow. Its effects accumulate gradually, changing how people live and relate to one another until the country that emerges on the other side may look familiar in name but is fundamentally different in character.

The implications become darker when we consider who stands to benefit from such a transformation. A society under sustained pressure is not merely vulnerable; it can also be steered, and those who already hold the greatest wealth and influence have reasons to favour a controlled demolition over an unpredictable breakdown. The phrase order out of chaos captures this dynamic. Once associated with secret societies, it has found its way into discussions of central banking and World Economic Forum panels, carrying the idea that periods of disorder can create opportunities to reshape the system that follows. Sometimes chaos is deliberately engineered; in other cases, those with power simply recognize an opportunity and exploit it. Distinguishing between the two is not always straightforward, but the difference matters: one involves a plan, the other a willingness to take advantage of events. The following analysis examines the less visible consequences of a partial collapse, the changes that rarely make headlines, and the question that runs beneath them all: who is already positioned to profit when the smoke finally clears?"

Bill Bonner, "The Debt Controls the Fed"

"The Debt Controls the Fed"
by Bill Bonner

“If he loses, I’m f----ed...how long do
you think my prison sentence is going to be?”
- Elon Musk

Ardmore, Ireland - "The betting markets are forecasting a Democratic sweep in November. Assuming they are right, so what? One of the effects could be a constitutional crisis...leading to who-knows-where. The voting results could be tainted by fraud or loud accusations of diddling the ballot counts. Newly elected representatives could be told to cool their heels until the alleged election interference is investigated. But who will do the investigating? Well, Congress...including the members the voters just turned out. Truth Out: "Poll: 7 in 10 Americans Doubt Trump Will Accept Midterm Results."

The president has said that he will only accept the results of the midterms if he deems them to be “honest.” Consensual democracies only work when people trust their opponents to play fair. But when they think the other side is not just ‘wrong,’ but ‘evil,’ a whole new dynamic is set in motion. People of good faith tolerate the opinions and policies of other people of good faith. But they won’t make a deal with the devil. If you’re up against the Wicked One, you should do all you can to stop him; at least, that’s how the thinking goes.

And it was just that kind of thinking - similar to what happened in America in the 1850s, and many ‘revolutions’ gone sour - that gets resolved, as Mao put it, “out of the barrel of a gun.”

So what happens if Trump refuses to accept the verdict of the elections? Democrats would rush to the Supreme Court for judgement. But by that time, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the rabble were already in the streets...setting fires...running out through smashed windows with armloads of loot. Maybe New York or Los Angeles would look a bit like Paris.

It probably wouldn’t last too long; America’s gendarmes are nowhere near as restrained as those in France. And Republicans control the guns – at least, most of them. But even if the Supreme Court rules against him, Trump - facing hostile investigations in a hostile Congress - may decide to ignore the court.

This may not be as villainous as it sounds. A lot of money is at stake. It wouldn’t be too surprising if one side or the other resorted to some hanky-panky to get at it. Holding things in abeyance while they get to the bottom of it may seem not only justified, but essential to an honest Republic. Financial Times: "Donald Trump moves to block certification of Alaska Senate result if Republican loses. Candidates’ similar names could ‘taint’ the result, argues US Justice Department."

People don’t intend to have a ‘civil’ war. They don’t set out to have hyperinflation, either. Like prudent drivers, they make logical, reasonable choices - carefully staying below the legal limit - and then, screech...the car is sliding sideways on the gravel.

In the chaos and bloodshed following a contested election, most Americans would welcome a strong leader...one who would insist on law and order, first and foremost. “Elections can wait until order is restored,” he would say. Many people, alarmed by the lawlessness, would nod in agreement.

Possible? Certainly. Probable? Who knows? And then, even if the transition to a ‘blue’ Congress happens peacefully, what then? Washington Post: "As Republicans brace for election losses, Musk prepares for war. A host of Democrats have said they are eager to wield the power of their office to investigate the tech titan and his ventures should they win either chamber in the midterms."

The newly-seated, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed representatives, eager to get on nationwide TV, will use the Congressional subpoena - against Trump, the Trump family, its associates...its deals...and its backers. The biggest and boldest of them has already said that he won’t go gently into that good night. “Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets,” said the world’s richest man. “There is a large graveyard filled with my enemies,” he once posted.

One of the few amusing things about this election is that both parties are running on false pretenses. The Republicans claim this is a ‘Golden Age’ for the US economy. But inflation just completed its 67th consecutive month above the Fed’s 2% target. And for the last six months, real wages have been falling. The Trump Team collected $5.4 trillion in taxes in FY 2026. But it spent $7.4 trillion. What did they think was going to happen?

The national debt rose over $40 trillion. Trump and Biden, together, added half of the total just in the last ten years. And now, the Fed can no longer control the debt. Instead, the debt controls the Fed...which is forced to raise rates to avoid more inflation and higher interest charges.

Democratic candidates, meanwhile, claim they will slay the ‘affordability’ dragon. But they, along with their Republican colleagues, created the monster. They joined Republicans to support both military and non-discretionary domestic budgets - with bi-partisan support for every foolish boondoggle that came down the pike.

And now, yes, Democrats are licking their lips and rubbing their hands. They hope to regain power in Washington. But not one of them has come up with a reasonable plan to reduce deficits or protect the dollar. We have no idea how this election will shake out. But there’s already a whole lot of shakin’ going on. And in the coming financial storm, rocking the boat even more is sure to be disastrous. Democrat? Republican? Either way, we’re ‘f----d.’"

"Is It Time For Another Worldwide Civilizational Collapse?"

"Is It Time For Another Worldwide Civilizational Collapse?"
by Robert Arvay

Excerpt: "In 1200 B.C., worldwide civilization fell into ruin. That is only partially an overstatement. The Americas and Asia were on a separate path, but the Mediterranean complex of civilizations, the “known world,” was all but destroyed. It was laying the foundation of Western Civilization, which is the modern worldwide standard for science, technology, human rights, and self-government - and critically, an enduring monotheistic society.

The Bronze Age collapse took about a century, but that is sudden in terms of history. Before 1300 B.C. there was a network of prosperous, stable kingdoms. Then, shortly thereafter, everything went wrong at once. Volcanoes and invasions were the headline causes, but numerous other factors came into play. The result was the destruction of mighty empires. Thriving cities fell into ruin. Trade routes were cut. Barbarians massacred entire populations.

Recovery took centuries, but here we are, enjoying yet another golden age of worldwide prosperity. Yes, there are dark spots and open sores in the picture, but day to day, most people awaken to indoor plumbing and controlled temperatures. They enjoy breakfast, and they thrive within family, career, and comfort. It could all come crashing down in a lifetime or less. In the 1980s, cultural revolutionaries chanted, “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western civ has got to go.” If no one took them seriously at the time, we do now, because they are getting their wish.

Witness Europe. The aforementioned modern worldwide standard for science, etc. is being eroded. Invaders who once were repelled at the walls have now been invited in through the gates, and given food, shelter, medical care, and freedom. In return, they plunder, rape, and murder their benefactors. The revolution continues.

All of this was not only eminently predictable, but actually predicted. Hungary and Poland sounded the warning loud and clear, as did classic liberals throughout Europe and the anglosphere. Today, those two nations are the safest and most stable countries in Europe, yet they are excoriated by the others for practicing the very policies that make them the shining examples of what the continent could be. The lepers are screaming at the healthy, “Be like us!”

Is a reversal of the currently unfolding self-destruction possible? Yes, but the bandage must be painfully ripped off. Mass deportation, previously unthinkable to the leftist mind, is now being seriously discussed as a necessity. Painful solutions, however, are not something ignorant populations accept, or even understand.

As our Founders understood, evils will be suffered while they are sufferable, but eventually, they become neither tolerable nor tolerated. What happens when the evils are so deeply embedded that removing them is not merely painful, but destructive of the institutions of power?"

"The Grotesque Tangle of Sedition"
by Jim Kunstler

“We are also starting to consult federal workers on how to do some blocking inside
the govt. agencies during emergency situations - but please do not put that on the form.”
  - Eric Manton, of the DRG

"They put it on the form, though, cuz somebody screwed up. Oopsie...Get this: the reason that a color revolution is underway at all in America is not really political anymore —-if it ever even was. It’s because a whole lot of people have committed crimes against this country. And with each wave of attempted sedition, they have compounded their crimes with more seditious acts, arrant hoaxes, lawfare, election fraud, censorship, and wholesale looting of taxpayer dollars to keep themselves out of prison.

That’s what USAID was all about, and why it was taken down early in Trump 2.0. It was a nexus of racketeering and the home-base of the Deep State’s foot soldiers, bureaucrats who actually managed the money streams to NGOs that ran everything from election rigging operations to vast social services fraud in blue states, in concert with a Democratic Party that had nothing but rackets to keep it going.

That’s how the USAID’s defunct Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) has morphed into the new Democracy Renewal Group (DRG). This new DRG operates under another project called Branch-4 - as in a fourth branch of government, the permanent bureaucracy - and Branch-4 operates under an NGO called the Action Center on Race and the Economy Institute (ACRE Institute), a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Chicago (EIN 82-1199695). Note, the ACRE Institute’s primary funders include the Ford Foundations and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. You see how byzantine this is, echoing exactly the hyper-complex administrative workings of government bureaucracy itself?

And so, that’s why, for instance, one Eric Manton, a former USAID employee now working with DRG said, “...we are also starting to consult federal workers on how to do some blocking inside the govt agencies during emergency situations.” Blocking? What they mean by that is federal employees lodged in the official agencies should “help run out the clock...develop selective hearing...forgetfulness...or blame your workload” for whatever it takes to block enforcement of any executive action proposed by the Trump administration.

Those tactics are explicitly proposed by another org, the Federal Workers Alliance for Democracy (FWAD formerly known as Federal Workers Against DOGE), which is affiliated with DRG primarily as a partner in the Renew American Democracy (RAD) strategy and through the broader Branch-4 ecosystem. Confused yet? You should be. The flak-storm of acronyms is beloved by Lefty-leftists for exactly that purpose.

RAD is run by Daniella Reiff, a 20-year veteran of USAID color revolution programs in Europe and Africa. Her co-coordinator at RAD is one Paul Zeitz, an osteopath and rabbi who worked previously for USAID in Africa and for the State Department as Director of the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development, whatever that was. FWAD is led by one Beverly Schreiber

You might ask: why has the FBI not paid a visit to Beverley Schreiber to assess how she is organizing her members to “block” actions that the chief executive orders agencies to carry out? The Federal Workers Alliance for Democracy must have a membership list. If their mission is to block the work of their agencies, as explicitly directed by FWAD, shouldn’t they be fired from their jobs?

And let’s not leave out a few other sketchy orgs and their leaders: Erica Chenoweth, who operates the United Democracy Alliance (UAD) out of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, which likewise operates under “umbrella” of the Horizon Project, led by Maria J. Stephan and Julia Roig. Stephan was lead foreign affairs officer in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (whatever that means), roughly 2009–2014. She was also co-director the Future of the Authoritarianism Initiative at the Atlantic Council, which is funded by George Soros’s Open Society org. Julia Roig was President and CEO of PartnersGlobal, funded by USAID, the State Dept., the Ford Foundation, and George Soros’s Open Society Foundation.

What you see is a concoction of intertwined subversive endeavors with more gears and escapements than a Schwarzwalduhren cuckoo clock, all operating under the banner of “Our Democracy,” by which they really mean their prerogative to run your world (and punish you for objecting). This includes running a coup against the current chief executive of the USA. Much of this information has been uncovered by the tireless and diligent researcher Jennica Pounds, known as Data Republican on X. She remarked Monday morning: “What makes 2026 different is that it’s the first time we know of that we found an operational, short-term plan to actually do a coup.”

Coincidentally, weird, coup-ish events played out yesterday in the Brazilian election. A judge who had been President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s personal lawyer ordered the polls to stay open an additional two hours until enough votes were “found” to haul Lula across the victory line over his opponent, Flavio Bolsonaro, a Trump ally. Chalk one up for the Globalists. Call it a DoorDash color revolution. Bolsonaro has refused to concede and is officially contesting the election. Expect street demonstrations by Bolsonaro supporters over this caper. Perhaps riots. Maybe Lula getting strung up Mussolini-style.

American coupsters will point to that as evidence that Trump supporters will riot after the US midterms. It’s all a giant mindf*ck. Meanwhile, our coupsters have been outed. We know who they are and what they’re up to. And we are all waiting to see what federal law enforcement aims to do about it."

"The Day The Dollar Collapses: How To Survive The First 72 Hours"

"The Day The Dollar Collapses:
How To Survive The First 72 Hours"
"If the dollar started to collapse tomorrow morning, would you know what to do in the first hour? Most people wouldn't. They would wait for the news, and by the time the news called it a crisis, the banks would be closed and the roads out of town already full. In this video we go through the first 72 hours of an economic collapse and the decisions that matter in each part of it, all based on real preparedness advice. A collapse rarely comes slowly, with warnings and time to get ready. When Greece closed its banks in 2015, it happened over a weekend, and people woke up to a limit of 60 euros a day at the ATM. In Cyprus in 2013 the banks stayed shut for almost two weeks. When money stops moving, stores switch to cash and the shelves in the cities empty first. That is why the first few hours matter more than anything you can buy later. A full tank means you can still leave. Cash means you can still pay. Water stored at home means you don't have to stand in line for it. A plan your family has already agreed on, where to meet and how to reach each other when the phones stop working, means nobody has to guess. None of it is expensive, and most of it can be done this week. This is Part 1. Part 2 is coming soon. If you have ever thought about what you would do on that first morning, tell us in the comments. Where would you go, and what would you take with you?"

"Relax, It's Only an Exxon Valdez on Steroids"

"Relax, It's Only an Exxon Valdez on Steroids"
by Larry C. Johnson

"Good news from the Persian Gulf: the war is going so well that the sea itself has joined the fight. While Washington’s experts debate missile counts and the price of oil (around $115 for Brent on Friday, in case anyone in the White House is still checking), Karl Miller, who is actually on the ground in the Gulf, sent me a note this week that nobody in the briefing rooms seems to have read. Don’t underestimate the damage to the world’s crude tanker fleet, he wrote, and don’t underestimate the pollution now spreading through the Gulf and down the coast of Oman. “It’s an Exxon Valdez on steroids,” he told me. “This is a catastrophe in its own right.” But I’m sure it’s fine. Let’s look at the numbers, just for fun.

Shooting the delivery trucks: The UK Maritime Trade Operations center has now counted 119 vessels reporting damage this year, and 77 sailors killed or injured. October is shaping up to be a banner month: Bloomberg counted at least 23 attacks on ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz in just the first two weeks, at least five of them in engine rooms, which is the maritime equivalent of being shot in the knees. Two ships sank last week. Two more tankers, the Kylo and the Riesco, went down in September. Nothing says “freedom of navigation” quite like a navigable ocean floor.

On October 9, somebody put a hole in the Gem No. 2, a 302,783-ton Very Large Crude Carrier, off the UAE coast near Umm Al Quwain. On October 22, Iran claimed four more hits on ships doing ship-to-ship transfers. Tehran’s new “Persian Gulf Strait Authority,” which sounds like a harbor commission and acts like a firing squad, says it has 122 “non-compliant” vessels on its list. One oil broker told Bloomberg that “every VLCC hit is material.” You don’t say.

Eight Valdezes to a ship: A little arithmetic for the folks at the Pentagon. The Exxon Valdez spilled about 257,000 barrels of oil into Prince William Sound in 1989, and Americans are still talking about it. A single VLCC carries about two million barrels. So every supertanker sitting in the Gulf is roughly eight Exxon Valdezes waiting for a drone. And the Gulf is a shallow, nearly enclosed bathtub with lousy circulation. Whatever goes in, stays in. Steroids, indeed.

We’re already enjoying the preview. This week the UAE closed the beaches of Umm Al Quwain after a slick more than 22 miles long and more than 60 square miles in area washed ashore on the Khor Al Beidah peninsula. The UAE said, with admirable understatement, that the oil was “likely coming from a VLCC struck earlier in the month.” Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the fish.

Down the coast, Oman is hosting the Caroline Bezengi, a tanker carrying about 800,000 barrels that suffered a mysterious explosion on June 8, was abandoned by its crew and then drifted aground in, of all places, a marine nature reserve near Qibliyah Island, home to humpback whales and Socotra cormorants. It started leaking at the end of June. By August the slick covered hundreds of square miles. The whales were not consulted. Across the water, Iran is mopping up its own crude spill off Qeshm Island. Everyone gets a souvenir.

But who needs drinking water? Here’s the fun part that the war planners seem to have skipped. The Arab Gulf states don’t just pump oil out of the sea. They drink the sea. Desalination supplies about 99 percent of Qatar’s drinking water, more than 90 percent of Bahrain’s, about 90 percent of Kuwait’s, 86 percent of Oman’s, 70 percent of Saudi Arabia’s and 42 percent of the UAE’s, according to figures compiled by CSIS and the Atlantic Council. The six Gulf states run about 3,400 desalination plants, a third of the world’s capacity, and more than 90 percent of the Gulf’s desalinated water comes from just 56 of them. What could possibly go wrong?

Desalination plants have a small design quirk: they need clean seawater. When an oil slick reaches an intake, the plant has to shut down or risk wrecking its membranes and filters. We’ve run this experiment before. In 1991, Saddam Hussein dumped oil into the northern Gulf and trashed Kuwait’s desalination capacity, and Kuwaitis got running water four days a week, with the rest delivered by truck. Even a humble algal bloom in 2008 and 2009 shut plants in Oman and the UAE for up to two months. Imagine what eight Exxon Valdezes could do.

And the backup plan? The UAE’s own water-security planning envisions about two days of stored supply under normal demand. Two days. Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, the countries that depend most on desalination, have what analysts politely call “insufficient storage.” Plants have already been hit directly: a strike in Bahrain in March cut water to as many as 30 villages, and Kuwait and the UAE have reported damage too. So the strategy appears to be: keep shooting at tankers in a shallow sea full of desalination intakes, and hope the wind cooperates. In the Gulf summer, a city without water is not an economic inconvenience. It is an evacuation.

Supertankers: now priced like space travel: Meanwhile, the world has discovered that you can’t actually move oil without ships. Who knew? In early January, chartering a VLCC on the benchmark Middle East to Far East route cost about $30,000 a day. By early October, according to Poten, it cost $1.3 million a day, a modest 43-fold increase. On October 8 it hit a record $1.4 million a day. For a few days this month, Bloomberg noted, renting a supertanker cost more than launching a rocket into space. Freight alone now adds about $33 to the delivered price of a barrel. In January it added $1.73.

Why? Partly because ships keep getting sunk, burned and sent to the repair yard from a fleet that had zero spare capacity to begin with. Partly because, with Hormuz restricted, tankers are stuck shuttling and pumping oil from ship to ship in the Gulf of Oman, a process the head of Vitol called “very inefficient” before observing that “there is really not quite enough shipping to go around.” And partly because shipowners have developed an irrational reluctance to sail a $100 million ship full of two million barrels of crude into waters where Iran keeps a target list. Cowards, all of them.

And the winner is... Now for the punch line, courtesy of Miller. When the smoke clears, the country sitting prettiest on the water will be Russia. For years, while Washington and Brussels were busy sanctioning Russian oil, Moscow and its friends were quietly buying up tankers, mostly older midsize ships, to build the so-called shadow fleet. Ukraine’s government counted 1,337 of them as of February. Western capitals called it a sanctions-evasion network. In a world that suddenly can’t find enough tankers, it is called a fleet.

And the West has already come crawling. In March, the U.S. Treasury temporarily lifted restrictions on selling Russian oil sitting on detained tankers, for the sake of “stability in global energy markets.” This month, the President of the United States personally negotiated a deal to buy Russian diesel. Four years of sanctions, followed by asking Putin for fuel. Bravo.

To be fair, the shadow fleet has its own charms. The tanker leaking all over Oman’s nature reserve, the Caroline Bezengi, is believed to be one of Russia’s: old, opaquely owned and, by most accounts, insured by somebody’s cousin. So the shadow fleet is both Russia’s trump card and a floating environmental time bomb that nobody is accountable for. Naturally, the bill for that lands on the beaches of Oman and the UAE, not in Moscow.

So let’s review. We have shot up the world’s supertanker fleet. We have turned the Gulf and the coast of Oman into an oil-slicked bathtub. We have put the drinking water of tens of millions of people at the mercy of the wind and a few seawater intakes. And we have handed the biggest stock of spare tankers to the one country Washington spent four years trying to sanction into oblivion. Miller summed up the outcome for the rest of the world in a word I can’t print in a family publication. I’ll paraphrase: when this settles, Russia comes out on top, and the rest of us are in very deep kimche. Mission accomplished."

"They Built Cities Beneath Your Feet: The 170 Bunkers They Don’t Want You to Know About"

"They Built Cities Beneath Your Feet:
The 170 Bunkers They Don’t Want You to Know About"
by Madge Waggy

Editors Note: This article is based on declassified U.S. government documents, testimonies from former federal employees with top-level security clearances, and investigative journalism spanning over two years. The information presented here draws from Congressional reports, files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and sworn statements by officials such as Catherine Austin Fitts, former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Bush administration. The figures regarding secret expenditures of $21 trillion originate from her analysis of federal financial records. The event that first exposed the existence of the Mount Weather bunker - the crash of TWA Flight 514 on December 1, 1974 - is documented in official FAA and NTSB reports. The facilities described are real locations, accessible to the public up to their security perimeters, though most operations conducted inside remain classified at “Top Secret” level or higher.

"The December 1st Cover-Up: The mountain swallowed the plane whole. On December 1st, 1974, TWA Flight 514 fell from the sky above Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, its fuselage tearing through ancient oak and hickory before slamming into a granite face that shouldn’t have been there. Ninety-two people died in the impact, their bodies scattered across a mountainside that official maps marked as empty federal wilderness. But when rescue crews finally hacked their way through the smoldering debris, they didn’t find only death. They found a revelation that would haunt the survivors until their own graves.

Carved directly into the living rock, sealed behind blast doors weighing more than some buildings, a tunnel yawned open where no tunnel should exist. Armed men emerged from the earth itself - men who spoke in the flat, affectless tones of people trained to deny everything, to explain nothing, to make witnesses doubt their own sanity. They took names. They confiscated cameras. They made it abundantly clear, without ever explicitly threatening, that what had been seen could not be spoken of.

Those rescue workers had stumbled upon Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, one node in a subterranean empire that stretches across the continental United States like a second, hidden nation. While you read these words, while your neighbors sleep peacefully in their beds, an entirely separate America exists beneath the topsoil - hardened against nuclear fire, stocked with decades of provisions, connected by tunnels that shuttle the chosen few between major cities without ever seeing sunlight. These are not crude backyard fallout shelters from 1950s paranoia. These are underground cities in their own right, complete with hospitals, crematoriums, television studios, and enough supplies to sustain thousands of people for years after the surface becomes uninhabitable.

Catherine Austin Fitts knows the true scale of what lies beneath. As former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under George H.W. Bush, she occupied a position that granted access to financial records most Americans don’t know exist. In 2017, she revealed the results of her investigation: the United States government secretly diverted twenty-one trillion dollars between 1998 and 2015. The official budget never accounted for this money. Congressional appropriations committees never authorized these expenditures. Yet somewhere in the labyrinthine accounting of federal agencies, trillions vanished into line items so heavily redacted that even senior officials could only see black bars where explanations should have been.

Fitts revealed that this astronomical sum funded the construction and maintenance of exactly 170 underground and undersea bunkers. Not crude shelters, but fully operational cities buried beneath the earth, some large enough to house tens of thousands of people indefinitely. The locations she identified include facilities beneath Denver International Airport, connected to the surface by tunnels wide enough to drive trucks through; undersea installations off both coasts; and sites scattered across the Federal Arc - that 300-mile radius around Washington D.C. where every federal continuity facility has been constructed since the 1950s.

Mainstream outlets dismissed her claims. Fact-checkers pointed out that $21 trillion exceeds the entire Department of Defense budget for those years combined. But Fitts never claimed the money came from defense appropriations. She exposed something far more disturbing: a parallel financial system exists within the federal government, one capable of moving sums that make the Pentagon’s budget look like pocket change, all without congressional oversight or public knowledge.

The documented reality of what we know exists proves she was telling the truth. The facilities described below are not theoretical. They are physical places you can locate on maps, approach by car, photograph from public roads—though getting closer than the perimeter fence will earn you a conversation with armed guards who do not smile and do not answer questions.
The First of One Hundred Seventy:
Mount Weather’s Subterranean Shadow Government:
Sixty-four miles west of Washington D.C., nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, a facility codenamed HIGH POINT has served as the ultimate insurance policy against Armageddon since 1959. Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center doesn’t appear on most maps. The roads leading to it are unmarked, branching off from rural routes that seem to lead nowhere until suddenly, through the trees, you glimpse the warning signs: restricted federal property, use of deadly force authorized, photography prohibited.

Constructed during the Eisenhower administration at the height of Cold War paranoia, Mount Weather was designed to do one thing and one thing only: ensure that some fragment of the United States government would survive even if the surface became a radioactive hellscape. Unlike the congressional bunker at Greenbrier - which we’ll examine shortly - Mount Weather wasn’t built for legislators. This facility was intended for the executive branch, the military command structure, and the shadow government that would take control after the elected officials above ground had been vaporized.

Above the surface, Mount Weather presents a modest face: some administrative buildings, communication towers, a few structures that could belong to any rural government facility. But the reality lies beneath. Excavated directly into the mountain itself, the underground complex extends through a series of side tunnels that accommodate twenty separate office buildings. Some of these subterranean structures rise three stories tall, complete with windows that look out onto artificially lit rock faces designed to simulate exterior views. Workers assigned here spend weeks underground without seeing natural sunlight - a psychological experiment that continues to this day.

Inside the mountain, Mount Weather contains everything necessary to sustain a functioning government for years. A fully equipped hospital with operating rooms and dental facilities. A crematorium capable of handling mass casualties. Dining halls, recreation areas, sleeping quarters for thousands. Reservoirs containing millions of gallons of drinking and cooling water, replenished by springs tapped deep within the mountain’s geology. An emergency power plant capable of generating electricity indefinitely, fueled by reserves stored in tanks that dwarf any civilian facility.

Most chilling of all is the East Tunnel, which houses a computer complex running the Contingency Impact Analysis System and the Resource Interruption Monitoring System. These aren’t bureaucratic databases. They are doomsday tools, designed to track the collapse of American civilization in real-time and coordinate the remaining resources of a shattered nation. When the unthinkable happens - whether nuclear war, biological catastrophe, or civilizational collapse - these systems determine who eats, who receives medical care, and which regions of the former United States are written off as unrecoverable.

Mount Weather gained its first real test during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Jacob Rosenthal, a former aide to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, later described being sent to the facility to prepare for the potential emergency relocation of the entire White House press corps. “This was the master relocation site for government,” Rosenthal recalled in a 2015 interview, his voice still carrying the weight of what he’d witnessed. “Inside the bowel of the mountain.” The facility was activated again in April 2015 when a power outage struck the capital region. While ordinary Washingtonians struggled in the dark, Mount Weather’s systems hummed to life, ready to receive those with the proper clearances.

The underground network connected to Mount Weather extends far beyond the official perimeter. Former employees have confirmed tunnels connecting to other facilities in ways that allow the elite to travel hundreds of miles without ever surfacing. During the Cold War, Soviet intelligence confirmed Mount Weather was connected by underground rail to Raven Rock in Pennsylvania, creating a subterranean command corridor spanning multiple states. American officials never denied this assessment.

Site R: Where War Would Continue After the World Ended:
Drive through the rural roads of Adams County, Pennsylvania, near the town of Blue Ridge Summit, and you notice the sudden proliferation of warning signs. Federal property begins where the forest thickens. Cameras on poles monitor stretches of road where no private citizen has any reason to travel. Occasionally, through the trees, you glimpse concrete structures that lead directly into the mountain itself.

This is Raven Rock Mountain Complex, known to those who guard it as Site R, and to intelligence analysts as “the Underground Pentagon.” While Mount Weather was designed to preserve civilian government, Raven Rock serves a more militaristic purpose: it is the alternate command center for the Department of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the National Military Command Center. If the Pentagon itself were destroyed, this is where nuclear war would be managed from.

Construction began in 1950, just five years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki demonstrated that the old rules of warfare no longer applied. The location was chosen with precision. Raven Rock Mountain sits on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border, far enough from Washington to escape the immediate blast radius of any attack on the capital, yet close enough that senior military officials could be transported here quickly when warning came. The mountain itself is solid granite, providing natural shielding equivalent to hundreds of feet of reinforced concrete.

Excavating Raven Rock required moving millions of tons of rock. The resulting complex extends through a series of chambers and tunnels large enough to house the entire military command structure indefinitely. Blast doors weighing uncounted tons seal the entrances -doors designed to close automatically when sensors detect the electromagnetic pulse of a nuclear detonation, trapping those inside in a world that has ended above them.

Unlike Mount Weather, which falls under FEMA’s jurisdiction, Raven Rock remains an active military installation. The Office of the Secretary of Defense maintains offices here. Communications infrastructure connects this mountain to every American military installation worldwide, creating a command and control capability that persists even if the surface communications grid is completely destroyed. During the September 11 attacks in 2001, Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to Raven Rock - not to the more famous presidential bunker beneath the White House -proving that this facility, not the officially designated location, serves as the true seat of emergency executive power.

What makes Raven Rock particularly disturbing is its role in continuity planning. Documents declassified in the 1990s revealed that Site R was designed not merely to survive nuclear war, but to prosecute it. The facility contains targeting data, launch codes, and communication systems that allow the United States to continue launching nuclear strikes even after the surface population has been decimated. The men and women who would occupy Raven Rock in such a scenario would be making decisions about which Russian, Chinese, or North Korean cities to destroy, even as they knew that everyone they had ever loved above ground was already dead or dying.

Local residents have reported the strange occurrences around Raven Rock for decades. Military convoys arrive at 3 AM, carrying personnel in vehicles with blacked-out windows. Helicopters land on pads that don’t appear on any map. Most unsettling are the underground detonations, seismic events that register on local instruments but are never officially acknowledged. The government continues to expand Raven Rock’s tunnel network, excavating deeper into the mountain and connecting to other facilities in ways that create a subterranean military infrastructure spanning multiple states.

The Mountain That Watches: NORAD’s Granite Fortress:
Colorado Springs sits in the shadow of Pikes Peak, a city that owes its existence to the military-industrial complex. The Air Force Academy dominates its northern edge. Peterson Space Force Base sprawls across its eastern approach. Fort Carson’s training grounds extend to the south. But the most secretive military installation isn’t visible from any highway. It’s buried inside Cheyenne Mountain, two thousand feet beneath solid granite, and it has watched the skies for Russian missiles every hour of every day since 1966.

Cheyenne Mountain Complex represents the most technologically sophisticated underground facility ever constructed. Built by the Army Corps of Engineers over five years of continuous excavation, the complex houses fifteen separate buildings, each three stories tall, suspended on massive steel springs designed to absorb the shock of a direct nuclear hit. The buildings don’t touch the mountain itself - they float within it, creating a shock-isolation system that survives even if the mountain above them cracks from the force of bombardment.

NORAD—the North American Aerospace Defense Command - makes its home here, or at least its backup home. Since 2006, day-to-day operations moved to Peterson Air Force Base on the surface, but Cheyenne Mountain remains fully operational, maintained in a state of constant readiness that requires millions of dollars in annual upkeep. The official explanation is that Peterson provides more efficient operations during peacetime, while Cheyenne serves as the hardened backup should war come. Defense analysts know the truth: the continued maintenance of Cheyenne Mountain proves preparations for scenarios that go beyond mere nuclear exchange.

Inside the mountain, fifteen buildings contain everything necessary to track every aircraft, missile, and space object approaching North American airspace. The famous “big screens” of NORAD - popularized in films like WarGames - are real, massive displays showing real-time tracking data that identify incoming ballistic missiles within seconds of launch. Communication systems connect Cheyenne Mountain to every radar station, every satellite, every early warning system across the continent and beyond.

Water supplies inside Cheyenne Mountain are stored in massive reservoirs capable of sustaining thousands of personnel for months. The complex generates its own power through diesel generators with fuel reserves that last years if rationed. Food stocks, medical supplies, and entertainment materials are maintained in quantities that prove preparation for extended habitation. The personnel who staff Cheyenne Mountain during exercises or actual emergencies live here indefinitely, watching the surface world through sensors and screens, making decisions about the fate of millions based on data that filters down from a world they can no longer touch.

Cheyenne Mountain is connected to other facilities in ways that have never been publicly acknowledged. During the Cold War, military documents confirmed the existence of a high-speed underground rail system linking Cheyenne Mountain to other continuity sites across the western United States. More recently, investigations have focused on the confirmed connections to Denver International Airport, some ninety miles north, where massive underground facilities exist beneath the runways.

The airport’s construction went billions of dollars over budget. Its underground baggage system—now largely abandoned—required excavating tunnels wide enough to drive trucks through. The airport’s art contains apocalyptic imagery that depicts catastrophic events and underground survival. These are not coincidences. They are messages for those who know how to read them, warnings of what has been built beneath our feet.

Project Greek Island: The Luxury Hotel That Hid Congress:

White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is the kind of town that time forgot in the best possible way. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, it exists primarily to serve The Greenbrier - a resort so luxurious that it has hosted presidents, royalty, and corporate retreats since 1778. The hotel’s white-columned facade suggests genteel Southern hospitality, a place where the wealthy come to escape the cares of the world through mineral springs, golf courses, and afternoon tea served by white-gloved waiters. For thirty-four years, from 1958 to 1992, the guests who sipped that tea sat directly above a secret that could have ended the American experiment in representative democracy.

Project Greek Island - that was the code name, chosen by men who appreciated irony - was constructed beneath what the resort called its “West Virginia Wing.” The cover story claimed that the massive construction project, which required pouring enough concrete to build a small city and excavating 720 feet into the mountain beneath the hotel, was simply an expansion of resort facilities. Local workers were hired, paid well, and told to keep their mouths shut. Most did. For three decades, the people of White Sulphur Springs kept a secret that would have made national headlines if revealed.

Behind a blast door weighing twenty-five tons - roughly equivalent to four African elephants - lay a facility designed to house all 535 members of the United States Congress, plus essential staff, for up to six months following a nuclear attack on Washington D.C. The bunker contained dormitory-style sleeping quarters, a hospital with operating rooms, a pharmacy stocked with enough medications to treat every conceivable ailment, a cafeteria capable of feeding hundreds, and even a television studio where the surviving members of Congress could broadcast to a nation that might no longer exist.

The most disturbing aspect of Project Greek Island wasn’t its existence - it was the selection process. In a democracy ostensibly governed by elected representatives, only the congressional leadership knew about the bunker. Rank-and-file representatives and senators were not informed of their potential relocation site. The facility was designed to preserve the legislative branch, but in practice, it would have created a rump Congress composed only of those senior enough to have been briefed on the facility’s existence - a Congress that would have numbered dozens rather than hundreds, making decisions for a nation of then 250 million people.

The Washington Post exposed Project Greek Island in 1992, and the facility was officially decommissioned shortly thereafter. Today, it operates as a tourist attraction, part of The Greenbrier’s regular tour offerings. Visitors can walk through the blast doors, peer into the dormitories, and marvel at the paranoia of a bygone era. But those who look closer notice things that don’t align with the official narrative. Certain sections of the facility are roped off during tours, with explanations that change depending on which guide you ask. Decommissioning occurred so quickly after exposure - almost as if the government wanted to distance itself from something that remains operational elsewhere.

The truth, revealed by former government officials who have spoken off the record, is that congressional continuity planning didn’t end. It simply moved. When Project Greek Island became public knowledge, the government didn’t abandon the concept of congressional bunkers—they built new ones, in locations that have never been revealed, to specifications that remain classified. The Greenbrier bunker was the one that got caught. The others remain hidden, their existence known only to a handful of senior legislators and the shadowy continuity planners who maintain them.

The Federal Reserve’s Secret Vault: Culpeper’s Buried Treasure:

Seventy-five miles southwest of Washington D.C., in the rolling Virginia countryside near the town of Culpeper, stands a facility that represents the most curious case of bunker repurposing in American history. The National Audio-Visual Conservation Center - also known as the Packard Campus of the Library of Congress - occupies a 45-acre site that was, until 1997, one of the most secret locations in the entire federal government.

Constructed in 1969 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in partnership with the Treasury Department, this underground complex was built to house the Culpeper Switch - the central hub of the Federal Reserve Wire Network, the electronic system that moved $30 trillion annually between member banks. The facility was designed to survive nuclear war and continue operating the electronic financial infrastructure of the United States even if the surface economy had been obliterated.

The bunker itself was a marvel of Cold War engineering. Four hundred feet long, built of steel-reinforced concrete a foot thick, radiation-hardened against the electromagnetic pulse of nuclear detonations. Inside, rows of computer equipment occupied climate-controlled rooms, processing financial transactions that represented the lifeblood of American capitalism. But the Culpeper Switch wasn’t just a data center. It was also a vault, designed to store physical currency in quantities that boggle the imagination.

Declassified documents reveal that at its peak, the Culpeper facility held $241 billion in cash reserves, including pallet after pallet of $2 bills that would have been distributed to regional banks in the aftermath of a nuclear exchange. The bunker contained enough food, water, and supplies to sustain 540 people for thirty days, ensuring that the electronic financial system could continue operating even as the physical economy collapsed around it.

In 1997, the Federal Reserve decommissioned the Culpeper Switch, moving its operations to more modern facilities. The bunker might have been demolished, or sealed, or simply forgotten. Instead, it was purchased by the Packard Humanities Institute and donated to the Library of Congress, which converted it into the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center. Today, the facility houses more than 90 miles of shelving containing millions of films, television programs, and sound recordings - the nation’s audio-visual heritage preserved in a bunker built to survive Armageddon.

The irony is almost too perfect: a facility designed to preserve capitalism in the face of nuclear war now preserves American culture. But those who have toured the Packard Campus report strange occurrences in the deeper sections of the facility - areas not open to the public, where the original Federal Reserve infrastructure remains intact behind locked doors. Employees report hearing machinery hum in sections that should be empty, seeing lights on in rooms that haven’t been used for decades, encountering people in suits who don’t appear on any staff roster.

These reports represent genuine ongoing operations. The Library of Congress maintains that the Packard Campus is purely a conservation facility, with no connection to any government continuity programs. But the physical reality of the structure remains: a radiation-hardened, blast-resistant bunker capable of sustaining hundreds of people indefinitely, located within easy reach of Washington D.C., sitting on enough land to accommodate significant expansion.

If the government needed to reactivate Culpeper for its original purpose - or for some new continuity role that has never been publicly acknowledged—it would take hours. Maybe days. The infrastructure is already in place. The tunnels are already dug. The only thing missing is the personnel and the authorization to use a facility that, officially, no longer exists as a bunker at all.

The Architecture of the End: Standing at the perimeter fence of any of these facilities, you feel it: the weight of the earth above, the silence of a security apparatus that watches without acknowledging your presence, the sense that you are standing at the edge of something vast and secret that extends far beyond what you can see. These bunkers are not historical curiosities. They are active components of a continuity system that has been maintained, expanded, and refined for over seventy years.

Consider what it means that the United States government has spent trillions of dollars - officially acknowledged and secretly diverted—to ensure that a select few would survive any conceivable catastrophe. Consider what it implies about the value placed on human life when resources sufficient to transform the surface world are instead directed toward creating refuges for the powerful beneath it. Consider the psychology of a nation that maintains 170 underground cities while its surface infrastructure crumbles, its schools decay, and its citizens sleep in streets.

Catherine Austin Fitts revealed that the $21 trillion she identified represents only what she could trace through the documents available to her. The true figure is far higher. The true number of bunkers - 170 by her count - is only a fraction of what actually exists. We know about Mount Weather because a plane crashed into it on December 1st, 1974. We know about the Greenbrier because a journalist exposed it. We know about Raven Rock and Cheyenne Mountain because they are too large to hide completely. But the others remain hidden, their existence never photographed, never named, never acknowledged in any document that might be subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.

The Federal Arc - that 300-mile radius around Washington D.C. - contains dozens of known continuity sites. But the Federal Arc is not the limit of the system. Declassified documents from the 1950s and 60s reveal plans for government relocation sites in every state, in every region, creating a distributed network of bunkers that allow the federal government to fragment and survive even if individual facilities are destroyed. All of these plans were implemented. All of these bunkers were built. The documents that would confirm the full extent of the network are still classified, still hidden in vaults that themselves are underground, hardened, capable of surviving the very catastrophes they were built to insure against.

What haunts the imagination is not the existence of these facilities but the mindset that created them. A government that prepares for its own survival on this scale has, in some fundamental way, given up on the survival of the people it governs. The bunkers represent a bet against the future - a wager that catastrophe is inevitable, that the surface world will eventually become uninhabitable, that the only rational response to existential threat is to dig deeper, build thicker walls, and wait for the storm to pass over those left outside.

When the next crisis comes - whether nuclear exchange, biological pandemic, climate collapse, or something we haven’t imagined yet - where will you be? Where will your representatives be? The answer to those questions has already been determined, in facilities you’ve never seen, by people you’ve never elected, using money you were never told about. The architecture of the end is already complete. It waits beneath your feet, patient as stone, ready for the day when the surface goes quiet and the blast doors finally close."
