"Spartans were known to be brief with their words, mainly because metal left a longer-lasting mark. When getting ready for battle, it’s likely that the commander had to say only a single word. "Paratattein" (παρατάττειν) is one likely command that Leonidas may have yelled out to prepare his men for battle at Thermopylae. It’s simple in that laconic Spartan way, and it means, roughly, “Form the line.” No bullshit. No pretty-please. No flowery prose. “Form the line!”

Fast forwarding... “I just heard that Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah.” The text was from a good friend that I’d known for decades. I checked it out: /pol/ and X® were already on it. It was true.

In our world, it’s not unusual to get real-life events in nearly real-time, if you know where to look. /pol/, which does not shy away from unfiltered reality, had two videos – one from a distance, and then one from the fourth row. The one from the fourth row was clear: Charlie was dead nearly instantly. The world changed with that shot.

Why Charlie Kirk? Most readers here would consider Charlie a moderate voice on the Right. He wasn’t edgy at all – you couldn’t even see the edge from most of his positions. That’s mainly why I didn’t pay him much attention, he was a nice, normal guy with normal opinions. He engaged in polite discourse with people and asked them to engage with ideas in a reasoned debate.

I honestly think he had a shot at the big prize: being the president that came after the Great Tumult of Civil War 2.0 in 20 years or so, perhaps being the one that worked on reconciliation after the coming strife. But this isn’t about me and what I believe. It’s about you. And that feeling you had then?

That’s called passing the point of no return.

The GloboLeft foot soldiers consider you to be a Nazi. You might be a Jew. You might be a Christian. You might be an atheist libertarian. You might be any variety of the spectrum of beliefs of the TradRight. To them, you are a Nazi. And what do they want to do with Nazis? Well, that’s clear.

There are certain subjects that I believe in that I don’t cover here, and that’s for a reason. Never push people out of the tent who are on your side. Never shoot Right. The Right are generally much more able to live with people of differing opinions than the Left. This is mainly due to the people on the Right having a belief system in a higher power, mainly Christianity. Mainly. The beauty of Christianity is that my faith doesn’t depend upon you believing any of what I believe. An atheist believing in something else doesn’t shake my belief, at all.

This is not true of the GloboLeft. They desperately need you to believe in them, not just obey them. Communist regimes set up re-education camps, not compliance camps. They need you to believe what they believe, no matter how often it changes. They want you to hate what they hate, no matter how often it changes. And love? Love is replaced in their world by lust or greed.

So, yes, I skip topics that would divide us. I see in the comments people who agree on 90% of things fighting each other for no particular reason. Let me be clear: you guys are people who the GloboLeft has already put into the same foxhole. If you want to fight, fight them. Enough with the damn purity spirals where we let minor differences divide us. The point for that type of knitting circle bickering is over! If you didn’t notice, the exclamation point on that sentence came spilling out in a gout of blood on September 10, 2025. If they hated Charlie so bad that they had to kill him rather than talk with him, what do you think they’d do with you?

For thousands of years, the main structure for armed warfare was something like the Spartan phalanx, which morphed into the shield wall and Napoleon’s fighting squares and the position Lt. Chard set up at Rorke’s Drift. These formations required discipline and trust in the comrade beside you. You were, after all, fighting for your very survival against an enemy that saw you all the same.

Wake up. That’s where we are, fighting for survival against an enemy that sees us all the same. These people want you to die, preferably in the most degrading way possible. They want your children to curse your memory and your values. Let me emphasize the point: WAKE THE F*CK UP.

Quit fighting each other over trivial crap when the consequences are having your children castrated and brainwashed. You’re all in the same crosshairs with an enemy that won’t stop, and that includes every single moderate like Charlie Kirk, who they also despised. Form the line!"

I don’t need to rehash the craziness and diabolical machinations that have gone on over the past few years. The pandemic, the societal brain blistering that has caused, the lead-up proxy wars, ISIS, crazy presidents, pedophilia, and child sex changes, the Lolita Express, Hunter Biden, Ukraine. And, what about the very real problem of climate change, put into the brainwash blender so average Joe or Judy won’t know up from down? Then there's Bill Gates, population control, and one of Epstein’s chums owning most of America’s farmland. What about that?

Yeah. We are pretty much screwed. They raided then-former President Trump’s home, and Tulsi Gabbard, Tucker Carlson, and other prominent conservatives are being labeled “traitors” to America for disagreeing. What's scarier is, it looks like the rest of us is next if you deal at all with social media. And, judging from the level of ignorance about the realities of a US/Russia nuclear confrontation, society is just dumb enough for a dystopian reset. A series of recent articles illustrate.

A USA Today story, and many others recently, have clued me to the two issues I just pointed out. First, it seems feasible that the screwed-up liberal order that got us in this global warming mess in the first place, seem determined to fix it with a perpetual cold front. Second, we’ve been brain battered, propagandized, and dumbed down so far we’re irredeemable. And they know it. Now, let me show you why.

A “new” study referenced in the USA Today story says Nuclear war between the US and Russia would leave 5 billion dead from hunger. The author of the study, a Rutgers University climate scientist named Lili Xia, tells us (again) how thousands of nuclear weapons being detonated will send megatons of ash into the stratosphere, blocking out the sun. This is not new science, and the language the scientist uses is for 8-year-olds or nincompoops. Here’s a snippet. “A large percent of the people will be starving… It’s really bad…. The reduced light, global cooling, and likely trade restrictions after nuclear wars would be a global catastrophe for food security.”

Yes, 12,000 modern nuclear weapons detonating would certainly block out the sun and cause famine, then disease, and maybe even a new Ice Age. The Rutgers charts in the study point to sea and soil temperatures dropping substantially. This would fix global warming but good. But “likely” trade restrictions after global thermonuclear war? This is 21st-century science, the big concern? What are these people smoking? I’ll get to Armageddon in a minute, but first, let me introduce the architects of this climate fix.

Okay, first, Bill Gates did not say the population should be controlled through vaccines. However, he is taking huge steps to prepare for the inevitable. This World Economic Forum story articulates his “warning,” and the Microsoft billionaire is America’s largest private landowner with almost 250,000 acres of farmland.

Now, let’s address what the real Armageddon will look like. I won’t take up your time here. This in-depth report from the height of the Cold War Era through 2003 tells us all we need to know. And if the Rutgers geniuses think their research paints a sad picture, by the time you get to the deep references Dr. Wm. Robert Johnston provides, you’ll realize how few people and animals on this Earth would survive.

These new researchers have made a horrible miscalculation. You see, by the end of the initial nuclear exchange, half the population of the world will be incinerated or blown to bits, and another ¼ will die from radiation and other injuries within weeks. Nothing will work, satellites won’t operate, there won’t be any economy, and the United Nations and most of our institutions will be gone. In the US, 5,800 warheads will have detonated, totaling 3,900 megatons. In Russia, nothing within 200 miles of Moscow will be left alive, not even bugs.

According to Dr. Johnston’s research/scenario, more than 200 nuclear warheads would render hundreds of thousands of kilometers lifeless, ruined, and utterly destroyed. Europe will be a mass open grave. Carnage will stretch from the currently undamaged Kyiv to the Pyrenees. Spain and Portugal may be the last strongholds of living souls. This MIT excerpt from the 2021 book “Nuclear Choices for the Twenty-First Century: A Citizen’s Guide” by Richard Wolfson and Ferenc Dalnoki-Veress, substantiates Johnson’s previous research.

In 60 years, there will still be vast reaches of land that are unusable. Genetic defects will have shown up in a big percentage of the few hundred million who survived. New Zealand and Argentina will be world powers in this new dystopia. We’ll have the brave new world, that marvelous reset Schwab and the globalists have been stirring. Greta Thunberg and the climate alarmists will finally fall silent (one way or another).

And now, I leave you with the final words from our Rutgers genius, Professor Alan Robock, who co-authored the study with Lili Xia, which was aimed at the world’s zombified population. It’s a groundbreaking revelation: “The data tells us one thing: We must prevent a nuclear war from ever happening.” Duh! Well, it’s happening. It’s the only strategy of the elites that makes any sense."

"There is perhaps no greater story of loyalty and devotion than that of Hachikō, the Akita who waited for his owner, Professor Hidesaburō Ueno, for over nine years following the professor’s sudden death in 1925. Each day, Hachikō returned to the train station where he had once greeted his master returning from work. His vigil lasted from May 1925 until his own death on March 8, 1935 - a period often recorded with remarkable precision as 9 years, 9 months, and 15 days. So profound was this devotion that a bronze statue was erected in his honor, marking the very spot where he died waiting for his beloved companion.

Yet Hachikō is but one chapter in a far longer story. Ancient writers frequently wrote about dogs, with accounts ranging from detailed manuals on hunting to tender epitaphs for cherished pets. Beyond their practical roles as hunters and guardians, dogs were clearly valued as companions from the earliest times. Some of the most moving evidence comes from funerary inscriptions. Consider the 3rd-century AD epitaph for a dog named Stephanos, whose owner, Rhodope, wrote that she “shed tears for and buried like a human.” Another inscription speaks of a dog named Parthenope, whose owner buried her “giving this favor in return for that pleasure.” These are not the words of mere pet owners; they are expressions of genuine grief and love.

If you have seen the latest film adaptation of "The Odyssey", you may recall Homer’s inclusion of Argus, the loyal dog who serves as a powerful symbol of fidelity and loss. After waiting twenty years for his master Odysseus’s return, Argus is the only one to recognize him - and he dies shortly after. It remains one of the most famous and poignant stories of a dog in all of classical literature.

You may have heard the saying that all dogs go to heaven. I believe that sentiment may trace its origins to ancient Egypt. There, dogs were believed to be spirit guides and companions for the deceased in the afterlife. This belief was rooted in both religious mythology and the deep personal affection Egyptians held for their canine companions. It was thought that a beloved dog who guided and comforted its master in life would do the same in death. Dogs were often buried with their owners - sometimes sacrificed after the master’s death and mummified - to ensure they would remain together forever. This theme appears in tomb paintings of pharaohs like Tutankhamun and Rameses the Great, who are depicted hunting with their dogs.

The Egyptians envisioned the afterlife, the “Field of Reeds,” as a perfect version of earthly life. There, the soul would be reunited with loved ones - including, surely, their faithful dog, waiting at home.

The bond formed when you sleep with your dog is directly linked to the release of oxytocin, often called the “love hormone,” which is known to reduce stress and promote feelings of well-being. The science behind this bond is truly fascinating.

The positive feelings are part of a feedback loop, well supported by research. Studies show that when you and your dog share loving interactions - such as gazing into each other’s eyes or cuddling - it triggers a surge of oxytocin in both of you. This is the same hormone that bonds a mother to her baby. The release of oxytocin is particularly powerful because it directly counters the stress hormone cortisol. The relaxation and calm you feel from snuggling with your dog at night are a direct result of this hormonal shift. I can personally attest to this effect, for my own dogs have often reduced my stress when human interactions have sent it soaring.

This urge to sleep together is deeply rooted in our shared history. For centuries, dogs and humans have co-slept for warmth and protection, and some experts suggest this instinct may even be genetic. Your dog likely sees you as part of its “pack” and feels safest and most comfortable when you are close. When I first brought Napoleon home, I placed her in a small cage beside my bed, and she cried. I thought perhaps she missed her mother, so I brought her into my bed. That was the end of the cage - and the beginning of a nightly ritual we have never abandoned.

The health benefits extend beyond mere comfort. Sleeping with your dog is associated with stronger feelings of security and comfort. One study found that people who slept with their dogs felt more secure and comfortable than those who slept with a human partner. I can certainly attest to the stress-reducing effect of oxytocin; I have no heart issues or blood pressure problems, and I have been told this is one of the benefits derived from the bond with a dog. Whether or not that is scientifically proven in my particular case, I am inclined to believe it.

Even throughout Asian culture, the core idea was that dogs served as protectors, companions, and even guides for their owners in the afterlife. It was a widespread and deeply rooted belief across many traditional Asian cultures. The tomb guardians and psychopomps was a key concept. In ancient China, the belief in dogs as afterlife companions was incredibly strong, dating back thousands of years.

From as early as the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046BC), dogs were found buried in human tombs. By the Han dynasty (206BC – 220AD), this practice evolved into placing ceramic dog sculptures (known as mingqi) in tombs. These were not just decorations; they were meant to serve and protect the deceased in the netherworld.

Some ancient texts describe dogs in the role of a psychopomp, a spiritual guide that leads souls to the afterlife. One famous text even tells a story of a white dog being sent by underworld authorities to dig a man out of his tomb, allowing him to return to life to teach the living about proper burial rites for the afterlife.

The fierce, bared-tooth poses of many ceramic tomb dogs suggest their primary role was to be guardians, warding off evil spirits and protecting the tomb from disturbance. This protective role was also seen as a form of companionship for the soul’s journey. It is a fascinating long history of dogs and why they call them man’s best friends.

Augustus, the first Roman emperor, had a small, white dog named Rufus, who was such a constant companion that Augustus would bring him to meetings and public events. When Rufus died, the emperor was reportedly so heartbroken that he ordered a statue of his dog to be erected in his honor.

"As you enjoy your Labor Day weekend, you may notice that gasoline and diesel are unusually expensive right now. As I will document in this article, gasoline prices have never been this high on Labor Day weekend, and the cost of diesel is now the highest that it has ever been in the entire history of our country. Needless to say, the soaring cost of diesel is really bad news for our economy, because most of our trains, most of our tractors and most of our trucks run on diesel. In addition, approximately 90 percent of the 500,000 school buses in the United States run on diesel. Unfortunately, this is only just the beginning. The war in the Middle East is not going to end any time soon, and neither is the war in Ukraine. In fact, I am convinced that a lot more war is ahead of us.

Normally, gasoline prices are trending downward as the summer comes to an end. But that hasn’t happened this year. In fact, the average price of a gallon of gasoline is above four dollars on Labor Day weekend for the very first time in U.S. history… American motorists are buying $4 gas on Labor Day weekend for the first time in history, a fuel analyst reports. A gallon of regular unleaded gas cost an average of $4.15 nationwide on Sept. 6, AAA reports.

There have been moments when the price of gasoline has been higher than this, but it has never been this high so late in the calendar year… “Gasoline, while not at all-time records, is at its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year,” said GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, writing in a recent post on X.

We are experiencing the consequences of the historic events that are taking place on the other side of the planet. The war in the Middle East has greatly reduced the flow of oil out of the Middle East, and Ukraine’s relentless attacks on Russian refineries are having an enormous impact on global energy markets. As a result, we are forced to pay much more for gasoline… In a normal year, gas prices follow a seasonal cycle, bottoming out in the depth of winter, when people drive less, and rising steadily through spring and summer, when temperatures are warmer, days are longer and Americans drive more.

But this is not a normal year. The Iran war has driven up global oil prices for months. On top of that, Russia has lost capacity in its refineries, De Haan said, amid ongoing attacks in its war with Ukraine. Together, those forces have pushed U.S. gas prices to their highest levels on record for this time of year.

What is happening to diesel prices is an even bigger story. On Friday, the average price of a gallon of diesel in the United States set a brand new record high… The national average price for a gallon of diesel now sits at $5.85, according to the AAA motor club. That figure represents a 55 percent jump since the start of the war with Iran, and the price for a gallon of diesel has now overtaken the previous peak, which occurred four years ago following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Then on Saturday, the average price of a gallon of diesel went even higher… Diesel fuel prices set a new record high Saturday for a second day in a row. The national retail average for a gallon of diesel reached $5.8819 Saturday, according to AAA’s daily fuel prices report. That’s up from $5.85 on Friday. This is not good at all, and the situation is particularly dire on the west coast.

In California, the average price of a gallon of diesel has nearly reached eight dollars…The most expensive state to buy diesel fuel is California, where a gallon on Saturday averages $7.7770. Prices have not exceeded $7 per gallon in any other state, but six other states have per-gallon averages above $6: Hawaii, Washington, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Alaska.

Russia is normally the second largest exporter of diesel fuel in the entire world. But thanks to months of Ukrainian drone strikes, that is no longer true. So now global inventories of diesel fuel are starting to get “very, very, very tight”… “Normally we’d be building up a lot of diesel inventory this time of year, and then we’d draw that back down in October and November. We’re not seeing that inventory build, so folks are looking out and saying ‘wow, inventories are going to be very, very, very tight,’” Miller said. Miller said the capacity taken offline in Russia could make it a long road to return the average cost of diesel to under $4 a gallon. “Diesel’s not going below $4 a gallon, oh for a very long time, if possibly ever again,” Miller said.

It would be extremely difficult for me to overstate the seriousness of this crisis. The crack spread for diesel has skyrocketed to levels that were once believed to be unthinkable…

Diesel is used to produce the food that you eat every single day. This year, much higher diesel prices are hitting our farmers like a sledgehammer… Dale Hemminger runs a dairy and cabbage farm in Seneca Castle, N.Y. “Diesel is our fuel,” he says. “We have to run tractors and harvesters and trucks, and they almost exclusively run on diesel. So, diesel and the price of diesel is a major factor.” So far this year, Hemminger says, fuel has cost him close to $45,000 for a tank of 10,000 gallons. Last year, it was around $25,000 for a tank.

This is one of the reasons why many are forecasting that you will be paying significantly more for food in 2027. Of course the cost of diesel is going to affect prices in nearly every other sector of our economy as well…Soaring diesel costs are raising expenses for trucking, construction, agriculture and other industries that rely on heavy-duty vehicles and machinery. High diesel prices can stoke inflation by raising the cost of transporting goods across the U.S., thereby pushing up consumer prices.

“The everyday consumer will see higher diesel prices in the consumer goods they purchase,” said Susan Bell, senior vice president of downstream research at Rystad Energy. “Think of the groceries that get shipped around the nation, and fruits and vegetables that come from California and move by truck or rail. It’s inflationary.”

Many pundits are hoping that the war in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine will both end within the next 12 months. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? But do you think that will actually happen? I certainly don’t. In fact, I believe that the military conflicts that we are witnessing will only intensify as we roll into 2027. So don’t get too accustomed to the painfully high energy prices that we are experiencing now, because I believe that they will soon go even higher."

"As the midterms approach, the media is increasingly focused on the Democratic infighting that I’ve referred to as the party’s “circular firing squad.” Those “purity” battles are especially unwelcome right now, when ousting members of the racist cult that controls the GOP is Job One – and critical to national survival. Because a lazy media is focused primarily on Democratic squabbles, it has largely missed the far more vicious MAGA infighting. A recent, really brilliant essay by Rick Wilson at LIncoln Square compared that infighting to the long history of revolutions that ate their own.

Wilson began by placing MAGA within that “entirely predictable pattern of revolutionary excess.” He relates some of that history: Robespierre and the Jacobins, the Bolsheviks, Pol Pot. And he argues that, while revolutions start with enemies outside the gates, they inevitably discover more enemies within them. MAGA is by no means revolutionary France, Bolshevik Russia, or Democratic Kampuchea; it is in fact more chaotic, more foolish, more devoted to carbohydrates, and less able to understand history. But the political psychology is recognizable.

Wilson enumerates the MAGA rifts that continue to expand, pointing out that, “as Trump grows weaker, MAGA constantly requires fresh proof of ideological purity.” There’s the battle between MAGA isolationists and hawks over Israel and Trump’s insane war in Iran – “the isolationists think Trump betrayed them by starting the war. The hawks think Trump betrayed them by trying to end it.” Then there’s the continuing coverup of the Epstein files, a coverup that “denied MAGA the apocalypse it had promised itself,” and led former Trump stalwarts (think Carlson, Thomas Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene) to abandon him.

There’s also the war within MAGA’s media ecosystem. For a decade, right-wing media and social media arms of the revolution had one organizing principle: Donald Trump. Now that the decaying emperor is visibly knocking on death’s door, the succession has begun, and the courtiers are discovering ideological differences they spent years pretending didn’t exist.

Tucker Carlson. Ben Shapiro. Megyn Kelly. Candace Owens. Laura Loomer. Mark Levin. The Fuentes faction. The Israel hawks. The Israel skeptics. The white nationalists. The anti-vax loons. The conspiracy entrepreneurs. The people denouncing the conspiracy entrepreneurs as grifters. The coalition that once spent its evenings hunting liberals now spends more of its time hunting one another for ideological imperfections.

As Wilson notes, an outrage economy requires outrage. With “Daddy Trump’s physical and mental declines joining his failures on every topic they cared about,” cannibalism offers more fury than the Democrats.

Then there’s the very definition of America First. What is the Revolution for, beyond the aggrandizement of the Dear Leader? That was enough for a long run, but no longer. Trump held these contradictions together because Trump never really had an ideology… He was a personality cult with a licensing agreement.

Wilson points out that taking just the House in November will “dramatically accelerate the MAGA crackup.” Trump, of course, will blame congressional Republicans. (Congressional Republicans will probably blame a “secret cabal of communists.”) A House loss means investigations. Hearings. Subpoenas. Legislative showdowns. Republican members scrambling to explain who lost the majority. They know who lost it: the gibbering orange lardsack currently besmirching 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with his white-trash decorating obsessions and monomania…

The isolationists will blame Iran. The hawks will blame Iran … after all, if only we’d just nuked Tehran, it would have all been solved. The immigration absolutists will blame insufficient deportations and not enough murders of American protestors. The populists will blame Wall Street. The donor class will blame the populists. Everyone will blame the GOP’s utterly venal consultant class, which is admittedly one revolutionary tradition I completely endorse.

Then comes 2028. Succession becomes real when the Dear Leader’s physical and political power starts to crack, and Trump’s is cracking like a Faberge egg on the floor of a biker bar. The revolutionary leader cannot rule forever until some AI dork can upload him to the cloud, which, thankfully, still seems a bit far off.

The knives are out. MAGA is a revolutionary effort, and Wilson reminds us that revolutions “cannot tolerate ordinary disagreement. Every policy failure must therefore have an explanation involving betrayal, sabotage, or insufficient faith in the Cause.”

MAGA spent ten years teaching its voters that losing is evidence of treason. They were told over and over that the Democrats weren’t opposition, but pure evil. They were told compromise is surrender, institutions are conspiracies, experts are corrupt, and insufficient loyalty to Donald Trump is the greatest political sin. Now those rules are being applied inside the movement. You really need to read the whole, bracing essay. MAGA’s civil war isn’t enough, obviously – but it’s a beginning: "Is The MAGA Fever Abating?"

Poitou, France - "We begin the week with news from the Independent: "The New American Dream? Leave America and move to Europe." In its 250th year, a country once defined by possibility now feels consumed by greed, division and profit over people, eclipsing the ideals it was built on…concerns over safety, healthcare and hope are driving record numbers of US citizens to abandon the country they once loved. People came to America in the belief that anything was possible...now they are leaving, perhaps believing that the most likely possibility is disagreeable.

A friend, whose family has been in the US for more than 300 years, recently confided that he was applying for Canadian citizenship. “You just never know what will happen. Canada just changed the rules, making it easier to get Canadian citizenship if you had an ancestor who was Canadian. So, I’m going for it.” He is not fleeing. At least, not yet. He is buying another possibility. All he needs is a great-grandfather from Moose Jaw, and he will have a put option. If things go bad at home...it will pay off.

Pity those who had no options. They hung around Saint Petersburg. Or Saginaw. The poor ‘Kulaks’ might have been trying to improve farm yields...and then, Stalin starved them all. And what about the earnest citoyen who wanted to make France into a modern parliamentary democracy; he got his revolution, and then the revolution got him. And don’t forget the Irish peasant who turned up his nose at passage to Boston just as the potato plants began to wilt. Even a 10th grade reading of history will tell you: there are times to be somewhere else. But like the stock market at a top, no bell is rung to tell you when it is time to get out.

Common Dreams: "Demand for Canadian Citizenship Soars as Americans Try to Flee Disastrous Second Term." After the passage of a law that allows people with Canadian ancestry going back generations to apply for citizenship, archivists are also seeing an increase in requests for genealogical records.

According to the Daily Express, Abdul El-Sayed was ahead of the trend: Michigan Senate hopeful, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, has apparently previously suggested that Americans start going to Canada to achieve the “American dream” during a May 2023 episode of his podcast, "America Dissected." “Economic data shows us that if you want to achieve the American dream, well, you should move to Canada, because it’s twice as likely there. Here, where you start predicts where you end.”

We used to go to Canada in the summers. As the days became miserably sweaty in Baltimore, the family crowded into our Chevy van...and headed for Nova Scotia. There, we were confident that it wouldn’t be too hot. Not only that, we also were sure that the Canadians would be polite. Even if they really didn’t want to see us coming, they wouldn’t say so. Being ‘nice’ is part of the culture.

But humans are not always nice. They go crazy from time to time. And they turn mean. Ireland under Cromwell...when thousands of Irish children were shipped to the Caribbean where they were worked to death on sugar cane plantations. France during the Revolution...when getting arrested for trying to flee meant the guillotine. Russia, in 1918 came Lenin’s ‘hanging telegram;’ he told the authorities to ‘publicly lynch at least 100 kulaks, rich bastards, known bloodsuckers.’

Americans are not immune. In Massachusetts, upright church-goers became convinced that the devil walked the streets of Salem. Lucifer needed to be crushed out of them - literally. So it was that they put Giles Corey under heavy boards piled high with stones. Was Corey a wizard...in cahoots with the Devil? He refused to say. And when ‘pressed’ for an answer... “More weight,” he replied. It took three days for Corey to die. Had he been in a nicer place, the hale-and-hearty 81-year-old might have lived a decade longer.

“You are writing from France and Ireland,” wrote a dear reader with an objection. “A country is like a spouse. If there is something wrong, you should stay and try to fix it...not run away. You’ve got to stick with your home country. Not turn your back on her.”

This was a strange sentiment for an American; every one of us has ancestors (save those imported as slaves) who ran off. If they hadn’t, we wouldn’t be Americans. Besides, a spouse is not a country. You took your spouse willingly. And you can talk to her. If you have a disagreement, with patience, good faith and perhaps a glass of wine and flowers, you may beg forgiveness and admit that she was right all along.

But you couldn’t sweet talk Stalin. Phytophthora infestans (the potato blight) was not even answering its mail. And by the time the guillotine was rolled into the Tuileries garden, it was too late to get away. Who knows what the future will bring? We will keep our papers in order...just in case."

"Clusterf*ck Nation never sleeps, even while everybody else lays aside their labors. Later today we’ll light up the ceremonial grill, but for now it’s onto the tribulations of this dolorous moment in history.

It was just such a sparkling September morning twenty-five years ago when those hijacked airliners knifed into the World Trade Center towers (plus the Pentagon + a field outside Shanksville, PA). Despite all the forensic debate since then, I go with the original explanation that four teams of jihadi maniacs did the 9/11 deed. And also, yet, despite all the official defenses mounted since then - the Patriot Act, etc. - here we are allowing a massive Islamic infiltration and even takeover of many places in America, proving, at least, that history is trickster.

After the trauma of 9/11, you can’t deny our country went off the rails psychologically, along with the rest of Western Civ, as if its immune system broke down and the body politic admitted all kinds of malevolent parasites into itself. They have induced disease in most of society’s organs - our institutions - the main political parties, the news media, the government agencies, the foundations, the schools, the arts & letters. The West’s collective brain got badly damaged in the process.

The disease is identifiable, though some of its mechanisms remain mysterious. The disease is called bad faith: acting or speaking falsely, and knowingly so. Pretending one thing as a cover for meaning something else, such as hollering about “justice” when you really mean vengeance; “inclusion” when you mean to cancel others out of careers and livelihoods; “diversity” when you won’t tolerate disagreement; “democracy” when you just want to push everybody else around.

The forces behind all this give off an odor of the occult. You can perhaps name and locate some of the engines driving it - the “Globalists,” the Marxists, the London banks, the EU, the WEF, the São Paulo Forum, the CCP - but their motives remain obscure. Angela Merkel has stated plainly why she allowed the mass immigration of the Third World into Germany (and thereby into all Europe due to the Schengen agreement that erased the EU nations’ borders): “to counter right-wing extremism,” she said. That sounds pretty clear, but it also seems quite crazy. And why on earth does Ursula von der Leyen do everything possible to keep that going? Have the migrants not sufficiently demonstrated their antipathy to Western society? How many rapes, knifings, beheadings, café massacres, and Christmas Village drive-throughs does it take?

It’s also hard to fathom how the London bankers (whoever they are?) have any sympathy with the Marxist revolutionaries who want to end the concept of private property and the instrumentalities of money that go with it. Or how the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations became so enamored of socialism. Or why the CIA seems bent on betraying the American common good. Or how come the League of Women Voters stridently opposes common sense election reform.

The race hustle is more comprehensible. It operates within a permission-structure built on the agonizing differential between success and failure. It’s just plain extortion: our failure is your fault, so pay up. And meanwhile, thanks for no-bail-and-no-jail, and for permission to shoplift, rape, murder, loot, and riot when we feel like it. (And cry harder about it.) It’s an obvious sado-masochistic setup.

The gender game gets more complicated, but it also comes out of a permission-structure based on success/failure, aggravated by a mutual shortage of marriageable males and females forced to compensate for any combination of bad luck and bad choices that lead to failure in life. But that dynamic has been neatly hijacked by groups seeking to create as much social chaos as possible. Why else would the Democratic Party get so avid for drag queen story hours in the early school grades? Is it not obvious that this isn’t really comedy, as claimed? Rather, it’s the presentation of women as monsters. Have you ever stopped to wonder how many of the kids watching these exhibitions are actually terrified by the disturbed adult males acting-out in their faces?

And now, the gender lunacy has climaxed - in Massachusetts, arguably the craziest US state - where mobs of deranged women chant and blubber in sympathy outside the courthouse where a mother who strangled her three kids just got off the hook. The kids were unfairly cluttering up Lindsey’s life, you understand... If anything is an apt tipping point for a society to go one way or another, there it is.

Twenty-five years of being insane is enough. It’s not making life easier for anybody. This is the meaning of Trump. He is aiming to fix as much of this as possible. That it’s his fate to play this role is further evidence that history is a trickster. It’s easy to make fun of him and his mannerisms; harder to weigh who and what he is fighting against - and what the stakes are. You might just boil it down to a battle between good faith and bad faith, of meaning business and playing games. The time for meaning business is at hand, and the time for playing dishonest games is over. Happy Labor Day and get ready for the action that’s about to come at you as we turn this corner into fall, for real."

Every lasting work of literature since the very weird “Beowulf” has been strange, not only because it grapples with the strangeness around us, but also because the effect of originality is startling, making even the oldest books feel like brand new stories.”

Strange: Out-of-the-ordinary, unusual, curious. “The strangeness around us,” says Handler. There is a paradox here. What could be less strange than the world around us? It is the same world that was here yesterday, and the day before that. More to the point: It is a world ruled by law. Inviolable causal bonds. That’s what makes science possible.

And yet, and yet. I walk wary. Strangeness lurks on ever side. Strangeness leaps out of every pebble in the path, every wildflower, every spider web flung between weedy stalks. In the midst of the utterly ordinary the extraordinary abounds. Nothing is so commonplace as to be common. The strangeness of the world, as in literature, has its source in the head, in the convoluted interaction of mind with world. Strange, that we should be here, strangers in a strange land, pilgrims on our own yellow brick roads where nothing is ordinary because everything is perceived through the filter of a unique consciousness.
