"We Wait Together,
A Love That Outlives the Years"
"We spend so much of our lives chasing beginnings, yet there is a quiet beauty in the nearing of an end. Not as something to fear, but as something to accept - with grace, with trust, and with a hand we have chosen to hold all along."

Delta King's Blues, "Growing Old With Grace"
"Growing older isn’t about giving up… it’s about growing gentler, wiser, and more grateful with every sunrise. “Growing Old With Grace” is a heartfelt Delta King’s Blues tune about accepting the passing years with humility, kindness, and quiet strength. It celebrates a life measured not by age, but by the love shared and the lessons learned. A warm, soulful acoustic guitar carries the melody like a peaceful walk down a familiar country road at sunset. The harmonica breathes softly with tender emotion, weaving memories, gratitude, and hope into every lingering note. The groove flows slow and comforting, built for front-porch evenings, gentle conversations, and reflecting on a life well lived. This is blues for embracing every season of life. For those who understand that true beauty isn’t found in staying young - it’s found in aging with compassion, dignity, and an open heart. Grace isn’t about growing older without wrinkles… it’s about wearing every one with gratitude."

you can kinda trust, if the truth is inconvenient,
and if the truth doesn't, like, fit, they don't believe it."

"Iran Just Shocked Trump; Invade U.S. Tactical Base in Iraq;
 Many Soldiers Feared Captured?"
"Iran’s military has just executed one of its most audacious operations against American interests in Iraq - sending elite special forces deep into Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to eliminate CIA-trained Kurdish militant leaders. Over 14 ground missions in four months, zero Iranian casualties, and a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone shot down over the Strait of Hormuz hours after Trump’s threats. Retired Lt. Col. Anthony Aguilar confirms: Tehran is sending a clear message - they are not waiting to be attacked. In this video, we break down the full strategic picture - how the U.S. and occupation forces were planning to use Iraqi Kurdistan as a launchpad for invading Iran, the geography of a potential war, Iran's missile and drone response, Turkey's critical role in blocking Washington's schemes, and why Trump's angry tweets expose America's growing impotence. This is the reality of a new Middle East - where resistance is rewriting the rules."

"Forgiveness..."

"It’s forgiveness that makes us what we are. Without forgiveness, our species would’ve annihilated itself in endless retributions. Without forgiveness, there would be no history. Without that hope, there would be no art, for every work of art is in some way an act of forgiveness. Without that dream, there would be no love, for every act of love is in some way a promise to forgive. We live on because we can love, and we love because we can forgive."
- Gregory David Roberts, "Shantaram"
"A Buddhist Prayer of Forgiveness"

"If I have harmed anyone in any way
either knowingly or unknowingly
through my own confusions
I ask their forgiveness.
If anyone has harmed me in any way
either knowingly or unknowingly
through their own confusions
I forgive them.
And if there is a situation
I am not yet ready to forgive
I forgive myself for that.
For all the ways that I harm myself,
negate, doubt, belittle myself,
judge or be unkind to myself
through my own confusions
I forgive myself."

"When We Can No Longer Tell the Truth "

"When We Can No Longer Tell the Truth"
by Charles Hugh Smith

"When we can no longer tell the truth because the truth will bring the whole rotten, fragile status quo down in a heap of broken promises and lies, we've reached the perfection of dysfunction. You know the one essential guideline to leadership in a doomed dysfunctional system: when it gets serious, you have to lie. In other words, the status quo's secular goddess is TINA - there is no alternative to lying, because the truth will bring the whole corrupt structure tumbling down.

This core dynamic of dysfunction is scale-invariant, meaning that hiding the truth is the core dynamic in dysfunctional relationships, households, communities, enterprises, cities, corporations, states, alliances, nations and empires: when the truth cannot be told because it threatens the power structure of the status quo, that status quo is doomed.

Lies, half-truths and cover-ups are all manifestations of fatal weakness. What lies, half-truths and cover-ups communicate is: we can no longer fix our real problems, and rather than let this truth out, we must mask it behind lies and phony reassurances.

Truth is power, lies are weakness. All we get now are lies, statistics designed to mislead and phony reassurances that the status quo is stable and permanent. The truth is powerful because it is the core dynamic of solving problems. Lies, gamed statistics and false reassurances are fatal because they doom any sincere efforts to fix what's broken before the system reaches the point of no return.

We are already past the point of no return. The expediency of lies has already doomed us.

Honest accounts of hugely successful corporations that implode share one key trait: in every case, managers were pressured to hide the truth from top management, which then hid the truth from investors and clients. is the key dynamic in failed oligarchies as well: if telling the truth gets you sent to Siberia (or worse), then nobody with any instinct for self-preservation will tell the truth. If obscuring the truth saves one's job, then that's what people do. That this dooms the organization is secondary to immediate self-preservation.

A distorted sense of loyalty to the family, community, company, institution, agency or nation furthers lying as the solution to unsavory problems. Daddy a drunk? Hide the bottle. Church a hotbed of adultery and thieving? Maintain the facade of holiness at all costs. Company products are failing? Put some lipstick on the pig. The statistical truth doesn't support the party's happy story? Distort the stats until they do what's needed. The agency failed to fulfill its prime directive? Blame the managerial failure on a scapegoat.

Pathological liars and cheats rely on self-preservation and misplaced loyalty to mask their own failure and corruption. A hint here, a comment there, and voila, a culture of lying is created and incentivized.

Obscuring the truth is the ultimate short-term expediency. Now that it's serious, we have to lie. We'll start telling the truth later, we say, after everything's stabilized, we hope. But lying insures nothing can ever be truly stabilized, so there will never be a point at which the system is strong enough and stable enough to survive the truth.

We are now an empire of lies. The status quo, politically, socially and economically, depends on lies, half-truths, scapegoats and cover-ups for its very survival. Any truth that escapes the prison of lies endangers the entire rotten edifice.

In an empire of lies, leaders say what people want to hear. This wins the support of the masses, who would rather hear false reassurances that require no sacrifices, no difficult trade-offs, no hard choices, no discipline. The empire of lies is doomed. Lies are weakness, and they prohibit any real solutions. Truth is power, but we can no longer tolerate the truth because it frightens us. Our weakness is systemic and fatal."

Free Download: Friedrich Nietzsche, "Beyond Good And Evil"

"Friedrich Nietzsche in ‘Beyond Good and Evil’ holds that only a few people have the fortitude to look in times of distress into what he calls the molten pit of human reality. Most, studiously, ignore the pit. Artists and philosophers, for Nietzsche, are consumed however by an insatiable curiosity, a quest for truth and a desire for meaning. They venture down into the bowels of the molten pit. They get as close as they can before the flames and heat drive them back. This intellectual and moral honesty, Nietzsche wrote, comes with a cost. Those singed by the fire of reality become ‘burnt children’ he wrote, eternal orphans in empires of illusion."
- Chris Hedges
"We work in the dark. We do what we can to battle the evil that would otherwise destroy us. But if a man's character is his fate, it's not a choice but a calling. Sometimes the weight of this burden causes us to falter from the fragile fortress of our mind, allowing the monster without to turn within. We are left alone staring into the abyss, into the laughing face of madness."

"How It Really Is"

"These Fires Are The Worst Natural Disaster In The History Of Spokane And More Than 2 Million Acres Have Burned In Oregon"

by Michael Snyder

"A tragedy of historic importance is occurring in the Northwest, and yet it is not getting nearly enough attention from the mainstream media. 65,000 people in the Spokane area have been forced to evacuate and many neighborhoods now resembles war zones after voracious wildfires came ripping through them. Meanwhile, more than 2,000,000 acres in the state of Oregon have burned to the ground. But since they are sitting in their fancy offices far away from the danger zone, many corporate media executives just don’t seem to care much about the nightmarish disaster that we are witnessing. Yes, these fires are getting some coverage, but the truth is that they should be front page news all over the nation.

Three very large fires have now burned over 12 square miles in Spokane and the surrounding suburbs…"Authorities were struggling to contain several large wildfires in the Spokane, Washington, area that have forced roughly 65,000 people from their homes, destroyed hundreds of buildings and sent plumes of toxic smoke into the air. Three wildfires have consumed more than 12.5 square miles of land in and around Spokane, the second largest city in the state, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. The blazes were 0% contained as of Aug. 3."

As I write this article, the Autumn Lane Fire is up to 5,869 acres, the Fairview Fire is up to 1,056 acres, and the Old Trails Fire is up to 3,621 acres. Police have now arrested the man that they believe is responsible for starting the Old Trails Fire… "A 37-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly starting the largest of the three devastating Spokane, Washington-area wildfires that are leaving some residents with nothing. Aaron Farinacci, a Spokane resident who has a prior manslaughter conviction, was booked on suspicion of first degree arson in connection with the Old Trails Fire and was being held on $1 million bond, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said."

I am so glad that they caught him. When he was arrested, he was reportedly “in possession of some waterproof matches and a butane lighter”… Authorities began investigating Farinacci after a witness saw him kneeling near grass where the fire began, Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels told a press conference late Monday. “We believe it was matches or a lighter. When he was detained … he was found to be in possession of some waterproof matches and a butane lighter,” the sheriff said, adding that Farinacci was only arrested in connection with the Old Trails Fire.

You would have to either be deeply evil or completely insane to purposely start a fire when conditions are so hot and so dry, and this is not the first time that Farinacci has been it trouble with the law. In 2010, Farinacci actually killed his own father…"Prior court records show that Farinacci is a convicted felon in Arizona for manslaughter and aggravated assault after killing his own father in 2010 following an argument between the two over cleaning the dishes. Court documents show Farinacci was sentenced to 12 years, 732 days of credit for time served and was released from prison in December 2020 before being discharged from probation in December 2024." These days, our society is absolutely teeming with predators such as this.

Once the fires started, California Interagency Incident Management Team 7 quickly arrived on the scene and took charge. Personally, I thought that was very strange. Why aren’t authorities from Washington state leading the response effort? I do not have an explanation for that.

According to Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown, these fires are “the worst natural disaster our region has faced”…"The fires have burned between 700 and 1,100 structures, including homes and businesses, according to the California Interagency Incident Management Team 7, which is leading the response effort. Officials said the numbers were preliminary as crews were still working to contain the wildfires.

Gent Welsh, adjutant general of the Washington National Guard, said at a news conference Aug. 3 that the damaged areas resemble a “war zone.” A day earlier, Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown said the wildfires were “the worst natural disaster our region has faced.”

That is really saying something. Spokane has a very long history, but this is the worst natural disaster in the entire history of the city. One local resident that discovered that her home had burned to the ground says that her neighborhood now looks like “a war zone”… “This is what I imagine a war zone is like,” Spokane resident Sheri Clark told the Spokesman-Review as she stared at the remnants of what used to be her home and beloved garden. “It feels unreal.” Nearby, Kristin Renz surveyed the damage to the home of her son and daughter-in-law in northwest Spokane. There was very little that wasn’t scorched by the flames. Her daughter-in-law, Kimber Renz, salvaged a muffin tin from the rubble.

Of course it isn’t just Spokane that is burning. Since the beginning of the summer, over 1,000 wildfires have burned approximately 450,000 acres in Washington state. Meanwhile, things have been even worse over in Oregon. More than 2,000,000 acres have burned so far in 2026, and the state is on pace to absolutely shatter the old yearly record…Oregon is getting close to breaking the state’s all-time record for acres burned in a single wildfire season. As of Monday morning, Carol Connolly, public information officer for the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center, said 2,081,661 acres burned in Oregon in 2024. So far in 2026, 60 large fires have burned 2,014,481 acres across Oregon.

This is not normal. In fact, this is not even close to normal. The other day, on one of my Facebook posts some guy claimed that I didn’t know what I was talking about because an El Niño event had not even started yet. Obviously that guy had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. On June 11th, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officially confirmed that an El Niño event had begun. Then a week later, NASA released an image of the El Niño event that the NOAA had already confirmed.

We have been witnessing crazy high temperatures all over the world, and now we are being warned that the worst is yet to come…While many countries are already facing one of the hottest and driest summers on record, experts warn ‘this is only the warm–up act’.

The WMO now predicts that sea surface temperatures in key regions will exceed 2.9°C (5.2°F) above the seasonal average. El Niño events typically reach their peak between November and February, and have their strongest influence on global weather during the start of the following year. This means we are only just starting to experience the effects of what experts are calling the strongest El Niño event in recorded history.

Of course the insane weather patterns that we are witnessing are just one element of “the perfect storm” that we are currently experiencing. If it seems to you that global events are going absolutely nuts, that is because global events really are going absolutely nuts. Our planet is being baked by record heat, historic droughts are occurring all over the planet, and the world is not even going to come close to producing enough food for everyone this year. Meanwhile, we are dealing with multiple wars, political chaos, outbreaks of disease and a surprising amount of seismic activity. Sadly, most of the population has stuck their heads in the sand and refuses to acknowledge what is really happening."

Todd Hayen, "They Really Don’t Care"

"They Really Don’t Care"
by Todd Hayen

"This might not apply to all sheep-types, but many of the ones I have encountered simply do not care. This could be the reason we can’t seem to get through to them with the facts we are constantly shoving down their throats. Of course, the ones I’ve talked to may just be saying they don’t care to shut me up, but I really don’t think so. They seem pretty sincere.

How could they not care? Now, that is the $64,000 question. People, in general, do not care about things they do not see directly affecting them. They should, but they don’t. People these days, at least, don’t seem very skilled at discerning things that will - if not cared about - eventually bite them in the ass. I think people used to be better at determining such things.

They used to see war in a neighboring country, for example, and say, “Hmmm, if we don’t do something about that, those bloodthirsty marauders may be over here next.” People who thought that way - speculating about a potential ass-bite - actually disappeared a long time ago, if they ever existed at all. Still, my point stands: if it doesn’t directly affect them in the present moment, they don’t care. Sorry, I think that is weird.

And, of course, people seem very inconsistent about this. Some things they do care about, and usually those things are not as important as the things they should care about. Take immigration control and enforcement, for example. Most people leaning to the left seem to care very much about the treatment ICE gives to people suspected (or legally determined) to be in the US illegally. They worry about their rights, their families, and the way they are arrested and deported. Yes, some of these worries are legitimate.

Everyone should be treated fairly and respectfully by law enforcement officials, and if they are not, it is right to complain about it through the proper channels. But none of these people seem the least bit concerned about how millions of illegal - and often criminal - people will degrade the way of life for everyone already living here. I often ask, “So, do you want open borders then, and as a result, never have laws about enforcing the rules regarding immigration?” They will invariably say, “Oh no, I do believe we should control our borders!” Go figure.

The same story goes for free speech. People may seem to care about hate speech and speech that does not fit their worldview, such as Charlie Kirk’s speaking about the negatives regarding transgenderism or abortion. But if you ask them, “So, you don’t believe in free speech then? You think the First Amendment of the US Constitution is idealistic hooey?” They will invariably say, “No, of course I believe in free speech!” But they don’t. Go figure.

They can’t see far enough ahead to recognize the consequences of cherry-picking speech - eliminating what they think is offensive and keeping only the “important stuff.” Unfortunately, you can’t do that, and up until recently people knew that. There is a consequence for freedom, and sometimes it isn’t pretty.

I think a lot of the time this “I don’t care” attitude stems from the fact that people don’t seem to care much about principles. Of course, that does depend on the “principle.” Using the immigration example again to illustrate this point: those against deporting illegal aliens seem to care about the principle of “kindness” and “loving your neighbour” and “no one should be hurt, for pretty much any reason.”

Yet they contradict this attitude in dozens of ways: expecting that people be put into prison for not calling someone by their chosen pronoun, or arresting someone giving a speech about the atrocities being committed in Gaza - they see these examples as hate speech. In these cases, it is fine to be arrested. But sneaking into the US illegally, or doing so and lying about your criminal record? That’s all okay.

I feel the shrew-types are (see my Substack for a definition of “shrew”) very aware of principles. The destruction of free speech and even the obliteration of privacy in the US is not necessarily affecting people directly (except during Covid, when it certainly did, with persecution toward the unvaccinated and the loss of jobs and livelihoods). It is a “principle thing” for a lot of us. It is the wanton destruction of the very fundamentals our country (the US) was founded on.

Not only our constitutional rights, but the inalienable rights our Creator granted us. The writing on the wall exclaiming a future none of us will be comfortable in is clear and present. We hear the train a-comin’, rolling ‘round the bend…And it doesn’t look good.

So maybe shrews also don’t freak out over injustices until we feel them, but maybe we also see what’s on the horizon more logically and pragmatically than the sheep-types do. But that too is arguable. The sheepies certainly have no problem losing their cookies over Trump, even though there is little he is doing that directly affects them in a bad way (until recently, at least).

They too claim to be looking at future calamity to justify their hate. Yet Canadians adore Carney, and can’t seem to see what his antics are bringing onto Canada: soaring inflation and grocery prices, ballooning deficits and national debt (now larger than the economy), higher taxes, and escalating trade tensions with the US through tariff retaliation and protectionist policies that critics argue risk recession and long-term economic decline. Or, probably the most devastating, getting into bed with China and the Chinese Communist Party (“It’s not Communism,” they love to bellow, “It’s socialism.” Ha ha.)

We see these inconsistencies in a variety of ways. Obama’s approach to drone warfare was entirely ignored, yet anything Trump did that was similar (before the Iran catastrophe) was considered criminal. But do they really care? Or are they just oddly selective about what they care about? Maybe it is more the latter we are seeing. Maybe they do care, but about strangely inappropriate things. And then not care about things that are very appropriate to care about. Got me. All I can say for certain is that it is weird. Very weird. And I do care about that."

Several generations of idiots, faces buried in phones...
"It is common to assume that human progress affects everyone - that even the dullest man, in these bright days, knows more than any man of, say, the Eighteenth Century, and is far more civilized. This assumption is quite erroneous. The great masses of men, even in this inspired republic, are precisely where the mob was at the dawn of history. They are ignorant, they are dishonest, they are cowardly, they are ignoble. They know little if anything that is worth knowing, and there is not the slightest sign of a natural desire among them to increase their knowledge." - H. L. Mencken, 1929

"People Are Finally Admitting About the Cost of Living Crisis"
"The cost of living crisis is changing how Americans pay for housing, food, childcare, transportation, and healthcare. Many people are still working full time and paying their bills, but only by sacrificing savings, delaying medical care, or relying on credit. This video examines why stable employment and slower inflation do not always translate into financial security. We look at rising housing costs, expensive childcare, household debt, grocery prices, utility bills, and the growing number of families struggling to absorb an unexpected four-hundred-dollar expense. Through real experiences shared by working Americans, we explore how financial pressure changes everyday decisions. Some renters are falling behind, parents are leaving work because childcare consumes too much income, and young adults are moving back home. Others are carrying credit-card balances, postponing healthcare, or working beyond retirement age. These stories do not represent every household, but official data show why many Americans feel increasingly vulnerable despite earning regular paychecks."

Bill Bonner, "Let's Not Make a Deal"

The Federal government now pays over $1.2 in interest payments a year to holders of US government debt (including some US government programs and agencies). Without yield curve control or some other form of ‘financial repression',’ the higher interest rates go, the higher this annual interest expense will climb.
"Let's Not Make a Deal"
by Bill Bonner

Paris, France - "Yesterday, we noted that the celebrity dealmaker who runs the USA seemed unable to make a deal. The deals either never come together...or come apart immediately thereafter. And now that we have the makings of another ‘deal’ with Iran, comes the Wall Street Journal with cruel mockery: “A friend quipped the other day that President Trump truly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize because he has already ended the Iran war eight times. Will the ninth time be the charm after his latest decision to call off a military escalation in search of a deal with the revolutionary regime?”

A superficial view suggests that the Trump team is profoundly incompetent. In the latest dealmaking miscue, Trump apparently forgot what the point was. He was supposed to be fighting terrorism...not manufacturing it. Dave DeCamp: "President Trump said on Saturday night that he decided to hold off on launching major strikes on Iran that he said would have inflicted “military terror” on the country, which came after media reports said he was ready to significantly escalate the war." No matter. We know what he meant. It’s his way of dealmaking. We do something abominable. The enemy fires back in kind. Then, we come up with a new atrocity. But what possible good can be achieved by this tit for tat approach? We searched Sun Tzu and Clausewitz; neither mentions mutual butchery as a wise strategy. What’s the logic...what do we hope to gain? How does it help POTUS?

Similar questions could be asked of his immigration crusade. He began with wide support for closing the gates. And he did close the gates, reducing the flow of ‘illegals’ to a trickle. This was a clear success. He might have taken a victory lap and stopped there. But the praise soon drained away like dishwater. Gracelessly rounding up people who had done no wrong...and treating them with brutish recklessness - on video...made Americans uneasy. The LA Times:

"In the time since Trump took office...the share of Americans who want immigration “decreased” in the United States dropped from 55% to 30%. The poll suggests Republicans’ sharp anti-immigrant views highlighted before November’s election - which helped return Trump to the White House - have largely faded."

But let’s more on to more important issues. Bloomberg has the headline that matters: "30-year Treasury yield sounds alarm in longest run above 5% yield since 2007." This is, we believe, the Primary Trend, the show worth watching closely. Rates headed up in 2020. Now, they’re nearly 300% higher. And the big, BIG question is whether this 5% threshold leads to much higher rates...or is the end of the trend.

The last time we saw 5% was nearly 20 years ago. But that was a joyful meeting, with yields sliding merrily down the yield cycle. We’re seeing it again now...5%...but now, the gaiety is gone. Interest rates are probably on their way to all-time highs. And if that is so, it is the single most important financial news you’re likely to get today, this week, or this year.

It means it’s too late for the stock and bond markets. Too late to attempt a controlled ‘soft landing.’ We might as well step away from the controls. In those immortal words of George W. Bush, ‘this sucker is going down.’ And it’s going down in a blaze of glorious inflation...and, most likely, violence.

Yesterday, we took giddy delight in watching the administration bumble along. The empire’s sacred fantasies...its most cherished protocols...are being pressed into pulp. The rule of law...the unbeatable firepower...the capitalist, free-market paradise, the pure heart...the can-do spirit, the sharp brain - the glittering virtues of the Old Republic are being stuffed into the blender...and decanted as slop.

And with them was pureed the last hope of avoiding catastrophe. It might have been possible 10 years ago - with only $20 trillion in debt and falling interest rates. Determined thrift at home and minding our own business abroad might have tidied things up nicely, without violence or bankruptcy. The total paid on interest on the national debt in 2017 was only $262 billion. The 30-year yield was just 1.31%. The entire debt load might have been refinanced, long and cheap.

Combined with a balanced budget and genuine America First foreign policy...today, we might be in high clover. Instead, Trump and Biden both went for more short-term debt to keep rates as low as possible...as if they could keep borrowing forever without a rate increase. And now, mostly thanks to Donald Trump, US debt has doubled. And interest rates are rising.

By 2030, total US government debt will surpass $50 trillion. And even without a rate increase, at today’s 5%, the interest on federal debt would come to about $2.5 trillion a year. The interest alone will force the feds to borrow more. And then, we can turn the page to the next harrowing chapter of ‘The Decline of the American Empire.’ Stay tuned."

"I Am Done"

"I Am Done"
by OHMama

"I was born at the end of Gen X and the beginning of the Millennial Generation, and grew up in a middle class town. Life was good. Our home was modest but birthdays and Christmas were always generous, we went on yearly vacations, had 2 cars, and there was enough money for me to take dance classes and art lessons and be in Girl Scouts.

My 1940s born Dad raised me to be patriotic and proud, to love the war bird airplanes of his era as much as he does, and to respect our flag and our country as a sacred thing. I grew up thinking that being an American was the greatest gift a person could have. I grew up thinking that our country was as strong, and honest and true as my Dad. I grew up thinking I was free.

As an adult, I have witnessed the world I grew up in fall to ruin. I have watched as our currency and our economy have been shamelessly corrupted beyond redemption. Since we’ve been married, my husband and I TWICE had our meager investment savings gutted by the market that we were told to invest in, now that pensions no longer exist and we working stiffs are on our own. We will be working until we die, because the Social Security we’ve been forced to pay into has also been robbed from under us.

I have watched as our elected officials enter Congress as ordinary folks and leaves as multi millionaires. I have watched my blue collar husband get up at an ungodly hour every day and come home with an aching back that we pray will hold out long enough to get him to old age in one piece. Outside of shoes, socks and underwear, almost everything my family wears was bought used. We’ve been on one vacation in 12 years.

We don’t have cell phones, or cable, or any sort of streaming services, just a landline and internet. We hardly ever eat out. Our house is 1400 square feet, no air conditioning. I cook from scratch and I can and I garden and I raise chickens for eggs and meat and I moonlight selling things on Etsy. Still it is barely enough to pay the bills that go up every year while service quality and the longevity of goods goes down. What I just described is the life you can live on 60K a year without going into debt.

At last calculation, when you consider all of the federal, state and local taxes plus registration and user fees, Medicare and SS payroll taxes, almost a third of what my family earns is stolen by the govt each year. What’s left doesn’t go far, just enough to cover the basics and save a little for when the wolf howls at the door.

I watched as my family’s health insurance was gutted and destroyed. Our private market insurance, which we had to have because my husband’s employer is too small to have a group plan, was made illegal. We were left with the option of either buying an Obamacare plan with unaffordable deductibles and insanely ridiculous out of pocket maxes, or paying the very gov’t that destroyed our healthcare a fine for not buying the gov’t mandated plan that we cannot afford. We now have short term insurance that isn’t really insurance at all, and I live in fear of one of us getting injured or sick with anything I can’t fix from the medicine cabinet.

I have watched as education, which was already sketchy when I was a kid, became an all out joke of wholly unmathematical math, gold stars for all, and self-loathing anti-Americanism. My family has taken an enormous financial hit as I stay home to home school our child. At least she’ll be able to do old-fashioned math well enough to see how much they are screwing her. A silver lining to every cloud, I guess.

I’ve sat by and held my tongue as I was called deplorable and a bitter clinger and told that I didn’t build that. I’ve been called a racist and a xenophobe and a chump and even an “ugly folk.” I’ve been told that I have privilege, and that I have inherent bias because of my skin color, and that my beloved husband and father are part of a horrible patriarchy. Not one goddamn bit of that is true, but if I dare say anything about it, it will be used as evidence of my racism and white fragility.

Raised to be a Republican, I held my nose and voted for Bush, the Texas-talking blue blood from Connecticut who lied us into 2 wars and gave us the unpatriotic Patriot Act. I voted for McCain, the sociopathic neocon songbird “hero” that torpedoed the attempt to kill the Obamacare that’s killing my family financially. I held it again and voted for Romney, the vulture capitalist skunk that masquerades as a Republican while slithering over to the Democrat camp as often as they’ll tolerate his oily, loathsome presence.

And I voted for Trump, who, if he did nothing else, at least gave a resounding Bronx cheer to the richly deserving smug hypocrites of DC. Thank you for that Mr. President, on behalf of all of us nobodies. God bless you for it.

And now I have watched as people who hate me and mine and call for our destruction blatantly and openly stole the election and then gaslighted us and told us that it was honest and fair. I am watching as the GOP does NOTHING about it. They were probably relieved that upstart Trump was gone so they could get back to their real jobs of lining their pockets and running interference for their corporate masters. I am watching as the media, in a manner that would make Stalin blush, is silencing anyone who dares question the legitimacy of this farce they call democracy. I know, it’s a republic, but I am so tired of explaining that to people I might as well give in and join them in ignorance.

I will not vote again; they’ve made it abundantly clear that my voice doesn’t matter. Whatever irrational, suicidal lunacy the nanny states thinks is best is what I’ll get. What it decided I need is a geriatric pedophile who shouldn’t be charged with anything more rigorous than choosing between tapioca and rice pudding at the old folks home, and a casting couch skank who rails against racism while being a descendant of slave owners.

I’m free to dismember a baby in my womb and kill it because “my body my choice”, but God help me if I won’t cover my face with a germ laden Linus-worthy security blanket or refuse let them inject genetically altering chemicals into my body or my child’s. I can be doxed, fired, shunned and destroyed for daring to venture that there are only 2 genders as proven by DNA, but a disease with a 99+% survival rate for most humans is a deadly pandemic worth murdering an economy over. Because science. Idiocracy is real, and we are living it. Dr. Lexus would be an improvement over Fauci.

I am done. Don’t ask me to pledge to the flag, or salute the troops, or shoot fireworks on the 4th. It’s a sick, twisted, heartbreaking joke, this bloated, unrecognizable corpse of a republic that once was ours.

I am not alone. Not sure how things continue to function when millions of citizens no longer feel any loyalty to or from the society they live in.

I was raised to be a lady, and ladies don’t curse, but f**k these motherf**kers to hell and back for what they’ve done to me, and mine, and my country. All we Joe Blow Americans ever wanted was a little patch of land to raise a family, a job to pay the bills, and at least some illusion of freedom, and even that was too much for these human parasites. They want it all,  mind, body and soul. Damn them. Damn them all."

"They Built Cities Beneath Your Feet: The 170 Bunkers They Don’t Want You to Know About"

"They Built Cities Beneath Your Feet:
The 170 Bunkers They Don’t Want You to Know About"
by Madge Waggy

Editors Note: This article is based on declassified U.S. government documents, testimonies from former federal employees with top-level security clearances, and investigative journalism spanning over two years. The information presented here draws from Congressional reports, files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and sworn statements by officials such as Catherine Austin Fitts, former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Bush administration. The figures regarding secret expenditures of $21 trillion originate from her analysis of federal financial records. The event that first exposed the existence of the Mount Weather bunker - the crash of TWA Flight 514 on December 1, 1974 - is documented in official FAA and NTSB reports. The facilities described are real locations, accessible to the public up to their security perimeters, though most operations conducted inside remain classified at “Top Secret” level or higher.

"The December 1st Cover-Up: The mountain swallowed the plane whole. On December 1st, 1974, TWA Flight 514 fell from the sky above Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, its fuselage tearing through ancient oak and hickory before slamming into a granite face that shouldn’t have been there. Ninety-two people died in the impact, their bodies scattered across a mountainside that official maps marked as empty federal wilderness. But when rescue crews finally hacked their way through the smoldering debris, they didn’t find only death. They found a revelation that would haunt the survivors until their own graves.

Carved directly into the living rock, sealed behind blast doors weighing more than some buildings, a tunnel yawned open where no tunnel should exist. Armed men emerged from the earth itself - men who spoke in the flat, affectless tones of people trained to deny everything, to explain nothing, to make witnesses doubt their own sanity. They took names. They confiscated cameras. They made it abundantly clear, without ever explicitly threatening, that what had been seen could not be spoken of.

Those rescue workers had stumbled upon Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, one node in a subterranean empire that stretches across the continental United States like a second, hidden nation. While you read these words, while your neighbors sleep peacefully in their beds, an entirely separate America exists beneath the topsoil - hardened against nuclear fire, stocked with decades of provisions, connected by tunnels that shuttle the chosen few between major cities without ever seeing sunlight. These are not crude backyard fallout shelters from 1950s paranoia. These are underground cities in their own right, complete with hospitals, crematoriums, television studios, and enough supplies to sustain thousands of people for years after the surface becomes uninhabitable.

Catherine Austin Fitts knows the true scale of what lies beneath. As former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under George H.W. Bush, she occupied a position that granted access to financial records most Americans don’t know exist. In 2017, she revealed the results of her investigation: the United States government secretly diverted twenty-one trillion dollars between 1998 and 2015. The official budget never accounted for this money. Congressional appropriations committees never authorized these expenditures. Yet somewhere in the labyrinthine accounting of federal agencies, trillions vanished into line items so heavily redacted that even senior officials could only see black bars where explanations should have been.

Fitts revealed that this astronomical sum funded the construction and maintenance of exactly 170 underground and undersea bunkers. Not crude shelters, but fully operational cities buried beneath the earth, some large enough to house tens of thousands of people indefinitely. The locations she identified include facilities beneath Denver International Airport, connected to the surface by tunnels wide enough to drive trucks through; undersea installations off both coasts; and sites scattered across the Federal Arc - that 300-mile radius around Washington D.C. where every federal continuity facility has been constructed since the 1950s.

Mainstream outlets dismissed her claims. Fact-checkers pointed out that $21 trillion exceeds the entire Department of Defense budget for those years combined. But Fitts never claimed the money came from defense appropriations. She exposed something far more disturbing: a parallel financial system exists within the federal government, one capable of moving sums that make the Pentagon’s budget look like pocket change, all without congressional oversight or public knowledge.

The documented reality of what we know exists proves she was telling the truth. The facilities described below are not theoretical. They are physical places you can locate on maps, approach by car, photograph from public roads—though getting closer than the perimeter fence will earn you a conversation with armed guards who do not smile and do not answer questions.
The First of One Hundred Seventy:
Mount Weather’s Subterranean Shadow Government:
Sixty-four miles west of Washington D.C., nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, a facility codenamed HIGH POINT has served as the ultimate insurance policy against Armageddon since 1959. Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center doesn’t appear on most maps. The roads leading to it are unmarked, branching off from rural routes that seem to lead nowhere until suddenly, through the trees, you glimpse the warning signs: restricted federal property, use of deadly force authorized, photography prohibited.

Constructed during the Eisenhower administration at the height of Cold War paranoia, Mount Weather was designed to do one thing and one thing only: ensure that some fragment of the United States government would survive even if the surface became a radioactive hellscape. Unlike the congressional bunker at Greenbrier - which we’ll examine shortly - Mount Weather wasn’t built for legislators. This facility was intended for the executive branch, the military command structure, and the shadow government that would take control after the elected officials above ground had been vaporized.

Above the surface, Mount Weather presents a modest face: some administrative buildings, communication towers, a few structures that could belong to any rural government facility. But the reality lies beneath. Excavated directly into the mountain itself, the underground complex extends through a series of side tunnels that accommodate twenty separate office buildings. Some of these subterranean structures rise three stories tall, complete with windows that look out onto artificially lit rock faces designed to simulate exterior views. Workers assigned here spend weeks underground without seeing natural sunlight - a psychological experiment that continues to this day.

Inside the mountain, Mount Weather contains everything necessary to sustain a functioning government for years. A fully equipped hospital with operating rooms and dental facilities. A crematorium capable of handling mass casualties. Dining halls, recreation areas, sleeping quarters for thousands. Reservoirs containing millions of gallons of drinking and cooling water, replenished by springs tapped deep within the mountain’s geology. An emergency power plant capable of generating electricity indefinitely, fueled by reserves stored in tanks that dwarf any civilian facility.

Most chilling of all is the East Tunnel, which houses a computer complex running the Contingency Impact Analysis System and the Resource Interruption Monitoring System. These aren’t bureaucratic databases. They are doomsday tools, designed to track the collapse of American civilization in real-time and coordinate the remaining resources of a shattered nation. When the unthinkable happens - whether nuclear war, biological catastrophe, or civilizational collapse - these systems determine who eats, who receives medical care, and which regions of the former United States are written off as unrecoverable.

Mount Weather gained its first real test during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Jacob Rosenthal, a former aide to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, later described being sent to the facility to prepare for the potential emergency relocation of the entire White House press corps. “This was the master relocation site for government,” Rosenthal recalled in a 2015 interview, his voice still carrying the weight of what he’d witnessed. “Inside the bowel of the mountain.” The facility was activated again in April 2015 when a power outage struck the capital region. While ordinary Washingtonians struggled in the dark, Mount Weather’s systems hummed to life, ready to receive those with the proper clearances.

The underground network connected to Mount Weather extends far beyond the official perimeter. Former employees have confirmed tunnels connecting to other facilities in ways that allow the elite to travel hundreds of miles without ever surfacing. During the Cold War, Soviet intelligence confirmed Mount Weather was connected by underground rail to Raven Rock in Pennsylvania, creating a subterranean command corridor spanning multiple states. American officials never denied this assessment.

Site R: Where War Would Continue After the World Ended:
Drive through the rural roads of Adams County, Pennsylvania, near the town of Blue Ridge Summit, and you notice the sudden proliferation of warning signs. Federal property begins where the forest thickens. Cameras on poles monitor stretches of road where no private citizen has any reason to travel. Occasionally, through the trees, you glimpse concrete structures that lead directly into the mountain itself.

This is Raven Rock Mountain Complex, known to those who guard it as Site R, and to intelligence analysts as “the Underground Pentagon.” While Mount Weather was designed to preserve civilian government, Raven Rock serves a more militaristic purpose: it is the alternate command center for the Department of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the National Military Command Center. If the Pentagon itself were destroyed, this is where nuclear war would be managed from.

Construction began in 1950, just five years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki demonstrated that the old rules of warfare no longer applied. The location was chosen with precision. Raven Rock Mountain sits on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border, far enough from Washington to escape the immediate blast radius of any attack on the capital, yet close enough that senior military officials could be transported here quickly when warning came. The mountain itself is solid granite, providing natural shielding equivalent to hundreds of feet of reinforced concrete.

Excavating Raven Rock required moving millions of tons of rock. The resulting complex extends through a series of chambers and tunnels large enough to house the entire military command structure indefinitely. Blast doors weighing uncounted tons seal the entrances -doors designed to close automatically when sensors detect the electromagnetic pulse of a nuclear detonation, trapping those inside in a world that has ended above them.

Unlike Mount Weather, which falls under FEMA’s jurisdiction, Raven Rock remains an active military installation. The Office of the Secretary of Defense maintains offices here. Communications infrastructure connects this mountain to every American military installation worldwide, creating a command and control capability that persists even if the surface communications grid is completely destroyed. During the September 11 attacks in 2001, Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to Raven Rock - not to the more famous presidential bunker beneath the White House -proving that this facility, not the officially designated location, serves as the true seat of emergency executive power.

What makes Raven Rock particularly disturbing is its role in continuity planning. Documents declassified in the 1990s revealed that Site R was designed not merely to survive nuclear war, but to prosecute it. The facility contains targeting data, launch codes, and communication systems that allow the United States to continue launching nuclear strikes even after the surface population has been decimated. The men and women who would occupy Raven Rock in such a scenario would be making decisions about which Russian, Chinese, or North Korean cities to destroy, even as they knew that everyone they had ever loved above ground was already dead or dying.

Local residents have reported the strange occurrences around Raven Rock for decades. Military convoys arrive at 3 AM, carrying personnel in vehicles with blacked-out windows. Helicopters land on pads that don’t appear on any map. Most unsettling are the underground detonations, seismic events that register on local instruments but are never officially acknowledged. The government continues to expand Raven Rock’s tunnel network, excavating deeper into the mountain and connecting to other facilities in ways that create a subterranean military infrastructure spanning multiple states.

The Mountain That Watches: NORAD’s Granite Fortress:
Colorado Springs sits in the shadow of Pikes Peak, a city that owes its existence to the military-industrial complex. The Air Force Academy dominates its northern edge. Peterson Space Force Base sprawls across its eastern approach. Fort Carson’s training grounds extend to the south. But the most secretive military installation isn’t visible from any highway. It’s buried inside Cheyenne Mountain, two thousand feet beneath solid granite, and it has watched the skies for Russian missiles every hour of every day since 1966.

Cheyenne Mountain Complex represents the most technologically sophisticated underground facility ever constructed. Built by the Army Corps of Engineers over five years of continuous excavation, the complex houses fifteen separate buildings, each three stories tall, suspended on massive steel springs designed to absorb the shock of a direct nuclear hit. The buildings don’t touch the mountain itself - they float within it, creating a shock-isolation system that survives even if the mountain above them cracks from the force of bombardment.

NORAD—the North American Aerospace Defense Command - makes its home here, or at least its backup home. Since 2006, day-to-day operations moved to Peterson Air Force Base on the surface, but Cheyenne Mountain remains fully operational, maintained in a state of constant readiness that requires millions of dollars in annual upkeep. The official explanation is that Peterson provides more efficient operations during peacetime, while Cheyenne serves as the hardened backup should war come. Defense analysts know the truth: the continued maintenance of Cheyenne Mountain proves preparations for scenarios that go beyond mere nuclear exchange.

Inside the mountain, fifteen buildings contain everything necessary to track every aircraft, missile, and space object approaching North American airspace. The famous “big screens” of NORAD - popularized in films like WarGames - are real, massive displays showing real-time tracking data that identify incoming ballistic missiles within seconds of launch. Communication systems connect Cheyenne Mountain to every radar station, every satellite, every early warning system across the continent and beyond.

Water supplies inside Cheyenne Mountain are stored in massive reservoirs capable of sustaining thousands of personnel for months. The complex generates its own power through diesel generators with fuel reserves that last years if rationed. Food stocks, medical supplies, and entertainment materials are maintained in quantities that prove preparation for extended habitation. The personnel who staff Cheyenne Mountain during exercises or actual emergencies live here indefinitely, watching the surface world through sensors and screens, making decisions about the fate of millions based on data that filters down from a world they can no longer touch.

Cheyenne Mountain is connected to other facilities in ways that have never been publicly acknowledged. During the Cold War, military documents confirmed the existence of a high-speed underground rail system linking Cheyenne Mountain to other continuity sites across the western United States. More recently, investigations have focused on the confirmed connections to Denver International Airport, some ninety miles north, where massive underground facilities exist beneath the runways.

The airport’s construction went billions of dollars over budget. Its underground baggage system—now largely abandoned—required excavating tunnels wide enough to drive trucks through. The airport’s art contains apocalyptic imagery that depicts catastrophic events and underground survival. These are not coincidences. They are messages for those who know how to read them, warnings of what has been built beneath our feet.

Project Greek Island: The Luxury Hotel That Hid Congress:

White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is the kind of town that time forgot in the best possible way. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, it exists primarily to serve The Greenbrier - a resort so luxurious that it has hosted presidents, royalty, and corporate retreats since 1778. The hotel’s white-columned facade suggests genteel Southern hospitality, a place where the wealthy come to escape the cares of the world through mineral springs, golf courses, and afternoon tea served by white-gloved waiters. For thirty-four years, from 1958 to 1992, the guests who sipped that tea sat directly above a secret that could have ended the American experiment in representative democracy.

Project Greek Island - that was the code name, chosen by men who appreciated irony - was constructed beneath what the resort called its “West Virginia Wing.” The cover story claimed that the massive construction project, which required pouring enough concrete to build a small city and excavating 720 feet into the mountain beneath the hotel, was simply an expansion of resort facilities. Local workers were hired, paid well, and told to keep their mouths shut. Most did. For three decades, the people of White Sulphur Springs kept a secret that would have made national headlines if revealed.

Behind a blast door weighing twenty-five tons - roughly equivalent to four African elephants - lay a facility designed to house all 535 members of the United States Congress, plus essential staff, for up to six months following a nuclear attack on Washington D.C. The bunker contained dormitory-style sleeping quarters, a hospital with operating rooms, a pharmacy stocked with enough medications to treat every conceivable ailment, a cafeteria capable of feeding hundreds, and even a television studio where the surviving members of Congress could broadcast to a nation that might no longer exist.

The most disturbing aspect of Project Greek Island wasn’t its existence - it was the selection process. In a democracy ostensibly governed by elected representatives, only the congressional leadership knew about the bunker. Rank-and-file representatives and senators were not informed of their potential relocation site. The facility was designed to preserve the legislative branch, but in practice, it would have created a rump Congress composed only of those senior enough to have been briefed on the facility’s existence - a Congress that would have numbered dozens rather than hundreds, making decisions for a nation of then 250 million people.

The Washington Post exposed Project Greek Island in 1992, and the facility was officially decommissioned shortly thereafter. Today, it operates as a tourist attraction, part of The Greenbrier’s regular tour offerings. Visitors can walk through the blast doors, peer into the dormitories, and marvel at the paranoia of a bygone era. But those who look closer notice things that don’t align with the official narrative. Certain sections of the facility are roped off during tours, with explanations that change depending on which guide you ask. Decommissioning occurred so quickly after exposure - almost as if the government wanted to distance itself from something that remains operational elsewhere.

The truth, revealed by former government officials who have spoken off the record, is that congressional continuity planning didn’t end. It simply moved. When Project Greek Island became public knowledge, the government didn’t abandon the concept of congressional bunkers—they built new ones, in locations that have never been revealed, to specifications that remain classified. The Greenbrier bunker was the one that got caught. The others remain hidden, their existence known only to a handful of senior legislators and the shadowy continuity planners who maintain them.

The Federal Reserve’s Secret Vault: Culpeper’s Buried Treasure:

Seventy-five miles southwest of Washington D.C., in the rolling Virginia countryside near the town of Culpeper, stands a facility that represents the most curious case of bunker repurposing in American history. The National Audio-Visual Conservation Center - also known as the Packard Campus of the Library of Congress - occupies a 45-acre site that was, until 1997, one of the most secret locations in the entire federal government.

Constructed in 1969 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in partnership with the Treasury Department, this underground complex was built to house the Culpeper Switch - the central hub of the Federal Reserve Wire Network, the electronic system that moved $30 trillion annually between member banks. The facility was designed to survive nuclear war and continue operating the electronic financial infrastructure of the United States even if the surface economy had been obliterated.

The bunker itself was a marvel of Cold War engineering. Four hundred feet long, built of steel-reinforced concrete a foot thick, radiation-hardened against the electromagnetic pulse of nuclear detonations. Inside, rows of computer equipment occupied climate-controlled rooms, processing financial transactions that represented the lifeblood of American capitalism. But the Culpeper Switch wasn’t just a data center. It was also a vault, designed to store physical currency in quantities that boggle the imagination.

Declassified documents reveal that at its peak, the Culpeper facility held $241 billion in cash reserves, including pallet after pallet of $2 bills that would have been distributed to regional banks in the aftermath of a nuclear exchange. The bunker contained enough food, water, and supplies to sustain 540 people for thirty days, ensuring that the electronic financial system could continue operating even as the physical economy collapsed around it.

In 1997, the Federal Reserve decommissioned the Culpeper Switch, moving its operations to more modern facilities. The bunker might have been demolished, or sealed, or simply forgotten. Instead, it was purchased by the Packard Humanities Institute and donated to the Library of Congress, which converted it into the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center. Today, the facility houses more than 90 miles of shelving containing millions of films, television programs, and sound recordings - the nation’s audio-visual heritage preserved in a bunker built to survive Armageddon.

The irony is almost too perfect: a facility designed to preserve capitalism in the face of nuclear war now preserves American culture. But those who have toured the Packard Campus report strange occurrences in the deeper sections of the facility - areas not open to the public, where the original Federal Reserve infrastructure remains intact behind locked doors. Employees report hearing machinery hum in sections that should be empty, seeing lights on in rooms that haven’t been used for decades, encountering people in suits who don’t appear on any staff roster.

These reports represent genuine ongoing operations. The Library of Congress maintains that the Packard Campus is purely a conservation facility, with no connection to any government continuity programs. But the physical reality of the structure remains: a radiation-hardened, blast-resistant bunker capable of sustaining hundreds of people indefinitely, located within easy reach of Washington D.C., sitting on enough land to accommodate significant expansion.

If the government needed to reactivate Culpeper for its original purpose - or for some new continuity role that has never been publicly acknowledged—it would take hours. Maybe days. The infrastructure is already in place. The tunnels are already dug. The only thing missing is the personnel and the authorization to use a facility that, officially, no longer exists as a bunker at all.

The Architecture of the End: Standing at the perimeter fence of any of these facilities, you feel it: the weight of the earth above, the silence of a security apparatus that watches without acknowledging your presence, the sense that you are standing at the edge of something vast and secret that extends far beyond what you can see. These bunkers are not historical curiosities. They are active components of a continuity system that has been maintained, expanded, and refined for over seventy years.

Consider what it means that the United States government has spent trillions of dollars - officially acknowledged and secretly diverted—to ensure that a select few would survive any conceivable catastrophe. Consider what it implies about the value placed on human life when resources sufficient to transform the surface world are instead directed toward creating refuges for the powerful beneath it. Consider the psychology of a nation that maintains 170 underground cities while its surface infrastructure crumbles, its schools decay, and its citizens sleep in streets.

Catherine Austin Fitts revealed that the $21 trillion she identified represents only what she could trace through the documents available to her. The true figure is far higher. The true number of bunkers - 170 by her count - is only a fraction of what actually exists. We know about Mount Weather because a plane crashed into it on December 1st, 1974. We know about the Greenbrier because a journalist exposed it. We know about Raven Rock and Cheyenne Mountain because they are too large to hide completely. But the others remain hidden, their existence never photographed, never named, never acknowledged in any document that might be subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.

The Federal Arc - that 300-mile radius around Washington D.C. - contains dozens of known continuity sites. But the Federal Arc is not the limit of the system. Declassified documents from the 1950s and 60s reveal plans for government relocation sites in every state, in every region, creating a distributed network of bunkers that allow the federal government to fragment and survive even if individual facilities are destroyed. All of these plans were implemented. All of these bunkers were built. The documents that would confirm the full extent of the network are still classified, still hidden in vaults that themselves are underground, hardened, capable of surviving the very catastrophes they were built to insure against.

What haunts the imagination is not the existence of these facilities but the mindset that created them. A government that prepares for its own survival on this scale has, in some fundamental way, given up on the survival of the people it governs. The bunkers represent a bet against the future - a wager that catastrophe is inevitable, that the surface world will eventually become uninhabitable, that the only rational response to existential threat is to dig deeper, build thicker walls, and wait for the storm to pass over those left outside.

When the next crisis comes - whether nuclear exchange, biological pandemic, climate collapse, or something we haven’t imagined yet - where will you be? Where will your representatives be? The answer to those questions has already been determined, in facilities you’ve never seen, by people you’ve never elected, using money you were never told about. The architecture of the end is already complete. It waits beneath your feet, patient as stone, ready for the day when the surface goes quiet and the blast doors finally close."
