"There are reports that Wal-Mart will be closing its stores to prevent looting on November 1st. The following video shows clips of people struggling with their being no food stamps for the month of November due to the government shutdown of 2025. We may also have the answer if Wal-Mart stores will really be closed this November. Thanksgiving is on jeopardy for many low income families this year."

"A Look to the Heavens"

"This fantastic skyscape lies near the edge of NGC 2174 a star forming region about 6,400 light-years away in the nebula-rich constellation of Orion. It follows mountainous clouds of gas and dust carved by winds and radiation from the region's newborn stars, now found scattered in open star clusters embedded around the center of NGC 2174, off the top of the frame.
Though star formation continues within these dusty cosmic clouds they will likely be dispersed by the energetic newborn stars within a few million years. Recorded at infrared wavelengths by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2014, the interstellar scene spans about 6 light-years. Scheduled for launch in 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope is optimized for exploring the Universe at infrared wavelengths."

The Poet: David Whyte, "One Day"

"One Day"

"One day I will say
the gift I once had has been taken.
The place I have made for myself
belongs to another.
The words I have sung
are being sung by the ones
I would want.
Then I will be ready
for that voice
and the still silence in which it arrives.
And if my faith is good
then we'll meet again
on the road,
and we'll be thirsty,
and stop
and laugh
and drink together again
from the deep well of things as they are."

- David Whyte,
"Where Many Rivers Meet"

"The poem is a little myth of man's capacity of making life meaningful.
And in the end, the poem is not a thing we see -
it is, rather, a light by which we may see - and what we see is life."
- Robert Penn Warren

"That's The Truth..."

"Someday stars will wind down or blow up. Someday death will cover us all like the water of a lake and perhaps nothing will ever come to the surface to show that we were ever there. But we WERE there, and during the time we lived, we were alive. That's the truth - what is, what was, what will be - not what could be, what should have been, what never can be."
- Orson Scott Card
"Now the voices and the sound of movement were gone, and the stream could be heard running quietly under its banks. The air was full of the scent of water and of flowers. She walked, quiet, while the house began to reverberate: a band had started up. She walked beside the river while the music thudded, feeling herself as a heavy, impervious, insensitive lump that, like a planet doomed always to be dark on one side, had vision in front only, a myopic searchlight blind except for the tiny three-dimensional path open immediately before her eyes in which the outline of a tree, a rose, emerged then submerged in dark. She thought, with the dove's voices of her solitude. Where? But where? How? Who? No, but where, where? Then silence and the birth of a repetition. Where? Here. Here? Here, where else, you fool, you poor fool, where else has it been, ever?"
- Doris Lessing

"Few Things..."

"If your view of the world is that people use reason for their important decisions, you are setting yourself up for a life of frustration and confusion. You’ll find yourself continually debating people and never winning except in your own mind. Few things are as destructive and limiting as a worldview that assumes people are mostly rational."
- Scott Adams

"The Vampire State: Feeding on Our Fear, Freedom and Finances"

"The Vampire State:
Feeding on Our Fear, Freedom and Finances"
By John & Nisha Whitehead

“But these weren’t the kind of monsters that had tentacles and rotting skin, the kind a seven-year-old might be able to wrap his mind around - they were monsters with human faces, in crisp uniforms, marching in lockstep, so banal you don’t recognize them for what they are until it’s too late.” - Ransom Riggs, "Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children"

"Monsters don’t always come wrapped in the trappings of horror or myth. Most often, monsters in the real world look like ordinary people. They walk among us. They smile for the cameras. They promise protection and prosperity even as they feed on fear and obedience. All is not as it seems. We are living in two worlds.

There’s the world we’re shown - the bright, propaganda-driven illusion manufactured by the government and its corporate sponsors - and the world we actually inhabit, where economic inequality widens, real agendas are buried beneath layers of Orwellian doublespeak, and “freedom” is rationed out in controlled, legalistic doses by militarized police and federal agents. We’re being fed a series of carefully contrived fictions that bear no resemblance to reality.

Tune out the distractions and diversions, and you run headlong into an unmistakable, unpalatable truth: monsters with human faces walk among us. Many of them work for the U.S. government. Through its power grabs, brutality, greed, corruption, and tyranny, the government has become almost indistinguishable from the evil it claims to fight - terrorism, torture, disease, drug trafficking, trafficking of persons, violence, theft, even scientific experimentations that treat humans as test subjects.

With every passing day, it becomes painfully evident that the American Police State has developed its own monstrous alter ego: the Vampire State. Like its legendary namesake, it survives by draining the lifeblood of the nation - the sweat, money, labor, privacy, and freedoms of “We the People.” One tax, one law, one war, one surveillance program at a time, it takes what it needs and bleeds us dry.

As in every great horror story, the most terrifying monsters are the ones that look familiar. Of all the gothic figures, Bram Stoker’s vampire - a cold, calculating predator bent on conquest -may be the closest to the waking nightmare unfolding before us.

Like its mythic counterpart, the Vampire State seduces its victims with promises of safety, comfort, and national greatness. Once trust is secured and access granted, it feeds slowly and methodically - just enough to keep the populace docile, but never enough to rouse them from their trance. Lulled by propaganda and partisan loyalty, the people become what Rod Serling, creator of "The Twilight Zone," feared most: a zombie-fied mob, mindless to the very monster that feeds on them.

Once it latches on, the Vampire State’s tyrannical hunger only grows. The Vampire State feeds on fear. Fear is the oxygen of tyranny. Every crisis - real or manufactured - fuels the quest for more power. Serling showed how quickly panic corrodes a community in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, where neighbors, convinced that danger lurks next door, transform into a violent mob and turn on each other. Our headlines change - drug wars and ICE raids, “domestic extremists” and pandemics, foreign hit lists and necessary military strikes - but the script remains the same: politicians play savior, and a browbeaten populace surrenders their rights for the illusion of safety.

Fear, however, is only the beginning. Once fear takes hold, the next step is to turn people against one another. Demagogues know well how to do this. The Vampire State feeds on division. In "He’s Alive", Serling’s young fanatic learns the oldest trick in the book: “The people will follow you if you give them something to hate.” The American Police State has perfected that art - pitting citizen against immigrant, left against right, protester against police, rich against poor—because a divided nation is far easier to control.

Division, in turn, breeds submission. Once a society is at war with itself, obedience becomes the only refuge. The Vampire State feeds on obedience. In Serling’s "The Obsolete Man," a religious librarian in an atheist society where books are destroyed is condemned to death for obsolescence. The real crime was individuality. Today, bureaucracies demand the same submission - teachers disciplined for dissent, journalists axed for challenging the prevailing order, citizens detained under executive orders for speech deemed “dangerous.” Resistance is drained until only compliance remains.

Obedience, however, is never enough. Tyranny requires endless sustenance - material, financial, and human. The Vampire State feeds on wealth. No predator survives without a steady source of sustenance, and the state’s preferred meal is the taxpayer. Endless wars, bloated budgets, emergency powers and corporate concessions keep the machine humming. As in Judgment Night and The Purple Testament, the war engine consumes bodies and earnings while sanctioning the cost as “patriotism.” Trillions get funneled to defense contractors and prison profiteers even as the public is told is “no money” for justice, infrastructure, welfare, or the basic maintenance of a free society.

Yet even that cannot satisfy a regime that wants total control. To control completely, it must know everything about those in its power. The Vampire State feeds on privacy. A true predator must know its prey. The predatory state now drinks deeply from the digital lifeblood of the nation - every call logged, every movement tracked, every purchase recorded. Palantir-powered surveillance, biometric checkpoints, facial recognition databases: this is Serling’s cautionary universe updated for the algorithmic age.
And when fear, division, obedience, wealth, and privacy have been mined to exhaustion, the Vampire State turns to its most precious prey - the human spirit. The Vampire State feeds on hope. The final hunger is spiritual. It drains its victims of hope until despair is all that’s left. A hopeless populace is a controlled one. Serling warned repeatedly that when people lose their moral bearings, they risk becoming the very monsters they fear.

Every horror story reaches a moment when the victims realize what they’re up against. Ours has come. The question is how to break the spell. While Rod Serling warned of what would happen if fear and conformity became our national creed, filmmaker John Carpenter showed what it looks like when that warning is ignored. Best known for "Halloween," Carpenter’s body of work is infused with a strong anti-authoritarian, anti-establishment concern. Again and again, he portrays governments at war with their own citizens, technology turned against the public, and a populace too anesthetized to resist tyranny.

In "Escape from New York" fascism is America’s future. In "The Thing" humanity dissolves into paranoia. In "Christine," technology turns murderous. In "In the Mouth of Madness," evil triumphs when people lose “the ability to know the difference between reality and fantasy.”

And in "They Live," Carpenter rips off the mask completely. Two migrant workers discover that society is controlled by parasitic aliens working in partnership with an oligarchic elite. The people - lulled by comfort, trained by propaganda, hypnotized by screens - serve as hosts for their oppressors. It is only when homeless drifter John Nada discovers a pair of doctored sunglasses - Hoffman lenses - that Nada sees what lies beneath the elite’s fabricated reality: control and bondage.
When viewed through the lens of truth, the elite, who appear human until stripped of their disguises, are shown to be monsters who have enslaved the citizenry in order to prey on them. It was fiction - but barely.

The monsters Carpenter envisioned were symbolic; ours wear suits and wave flags. Americans no longer need special Hoffman lenses to see who is draining us. They’re not aliens disguised by human masks; our overlords sit in high offices, issue executive orders, and promise to “save” us while feeding on our fears, labor, and freedoms. Unless we awaken soon, the Vampire State will finish what both Serling and Carpenter tried to warn us about. The time for allegory is over; the warning has become the world we live in.

The Vampire State’s power depends on darkness - on secrecy, silence, and the willing ignorance of those it drains. The remedy is not another political savior or bureaucratic fix. It begins where Serling’s and Carpenter’s parables always began - with the awakening of individual conscience, and the courage to name the real monsters in our midst.

Just as sunlight destroys a vampire, a populace that thinks, questions, and refuses unlawful commands is the surest defense against tyranny. We cannot fight monsters by becoming them. We cannot defeat evil by imitating its methods. If the Vampire State thrives on fear, feeds on hate, is empowered by violence, and demands obedience, then our weapon must be courage, our antidote love, our defense nonviolence, and our answer disciplined, creative civil disobedience. Every generation must relearn these truths.

Almost 250 years after America’s founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to unseat a tyrant, we find ourselves under the tyrant’s thumb again, saddled with a government that feeds on the fears of the public to expand its power; a bureaucracy that grows fat on the labor of the governed; a surveillance apparatus that gorges on data, privacy, and dissent; and a war machine that sustains itself on endless conflict. These are the symptoms of a nation that has forgotten its own cure.

The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were meant to serve as stakes through the heart of authoritarian power, but they are not magic incantations. With every act of blind obedience, every surrendered liberty, every law that elevates the government over the citizenry, our protections diminish. When that happens, the story turns full circle: fiction becomes prophecy.

In Serling’s universe, there was always a narrator to warn us. In Carpenter’s, the heroes had to liberate themselves from the monsters’ trap. Our task is both: to see the truth, and to act on it.

As we make clear in "Battlefield America: The War on the American People" and its fictional counterpart "The Erik Blair Diaries", monsters walk among us—because we have failed to see them for what they truly are. The Vampire State is real. But so is the power of the human spirit to resist it."

"The Discourse On Voluntary Servitude"

"The Discourse On Voluntary Servitude"
by Paul Rosenberg

"Following are key passages from "The Discourse on Voluntary Servitude," by Étienne de la Boétie (1530-1563), who was a French judge, writer, political philosopher and friend of Michel de Montaigne, one of the most influential writers of their era. Montaigne reported that La Boétie wrote this essay in 1549 at the age of eighteen. It was published only after his death.

This is a scream, from a young man whose eyes have opened to an ancient and horrifying evil... an evil that the rest of humanity worships. He musters his best efforts to appear careful, factual and reasonable, but his horror is hard to mask.

I have rendered it here with no apologies. La Boétie cries across the centuries. Hear him. More importantly, remember this cry: You may find it a difficult fit within the present world and your expectations of it, but if you sense any truth in this, resolve not to evict it from your mind, but rather make a place for it and let it remain, even if it must be off to the side. Posterity will thank you.

"Liberty is the only joy upon which men do not seem to insist;
for surely if they really wanted it, they would receive it.”
~ Étienne de La Boétie, "Discourse on Voluntary Servitude" (1548)

"I want to know how it is that so many men, so many villages, so many cities, so many nations, suffer under a tyrant who has no other power than the power they give him: Who is able to harm them only to the extent to which they are willing to suffer it… Who could inflict absolutely no harm upon them without them choosing to put up with it, rather than withdrawing support.

O good Lord! What strange phenomenon is this? What name shall we give it? What is the nature of this misfortune? What vice is it, or, rather, what degradation? You let yourselves be deprived before your own eyes of the best part of your revenues; your fields are plundered, your homes robbed, your family heirlooms taken away. You live in such a way that you cannot claim a single thing as your own; and it would seem that you consider yourselves lucky to be loaned your property, your families, and your very lives. All this havoc, this misfortune, this ruin, descends upon you not from alien foes, but from the one enemy whom you yourselves render as powerful as he is, for whom you go bravely to war, for whose greatness you do not refuse to offer your own bodies unto death.

He who thus domineers over you has only two eyes, only two hands, only one body, no more than is possessed by the least man among the infinite numbers dwelling in your cities; he has indeed nothing more to destroy you with, than the power that you confer upon him.

Where has he acquired enough eyes to spy upon you, if you do not provide them yourselves? How can he have so many arms to beat you with, if he does not borrow them from you? The feet that trample down your cities, where does he get them if they are not your own? How does he have any power over you except through you? How would he dare assail you if he had no cooperation from you?

From all these indignities, such as the very beasts of the field would not endure, you can save yourselves if you try, not by taking action, but merely by willing to be free. Resolve to serve no more, and you are at once freed. I do not ask that you place hands upon the tyrant to topple him over, but simply that you support him no longer; then you will behold him, like a great Colossus whose pedestal has been pulled away, fall of his own weight and break into pieces."

“What opinions the masses hold, or do not hold,
is looked on as a matter of indifference. They can be

“Talking to her, he realized how easy it was to present an appearance of orthodoxy while having no grasp whatever of what orthodoxy meant. In a way, the world-view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on people incapable of understanding it. They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening. By lack of understanding they remained sane. They simply swallowed everything, and what they swallowed did them no harm, because it left no residue behind, just as a grain of corn will pass undigested through the body of a bird.”
-George Orwell, "1984"

“To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself – that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word “doublethink” involved the use of doublethink.”

"How It Really Should Be"

"From Hyperinflation to Hypergamy: The Weimar Playbook and Why America’s Wallet (and Morals) Are Feeling the Pinch: A Play In Three Acts"

"From Hyperinflation to Hypergamy: The Weimar Playbook and Why
America’s Wallet (and Morals) Are Feeling the Pinch: A Play In Three Acts"
by John Wilder

"Ah, who doesn’t long for the Weimar Republic? That glorious interlude between the trenches of mud-filled World War I and the Austrian led sequel. What was the Weimar Republic like?

It was like your grandma’s bingo night turned into a rave with existential dread and paper money for confetti. But beneath the jazz hands and cocaine-fueled cabarets, the Weimar Republic wasn’t just an economic dumpster fire, even though that’s what it’s best known as. No, it was also a masterclass in how crumbling finances torch traditional values, especially when it comes to the birds-and-bees department. The ladies? Let’s just say that they were dumping their morals during that time period faster than you can say “Ruhr Occupation.”

It’s probably time to dust off the Weimar playbook to see what it teaches us in 2025 since history doesn’t repeat, but it does rhyme, not like one of those stupid haikus.

Act 1: The Money Meltdown (1923 – The Great Devaluation): The upside is my salary is 5 billion marks a month. The downside? It’s Germany in 1923, where everyone is a billionaire. But that five billion is enough to buy SpaceX®, right? No. Enough for a loaf of bread? No. By noon, it costs 3 trillion for a single Triscuit® without any Cheez Whiz™. Hyperinflation, sparked by French troops squatting in the Ruhr (while smoking cigarettes and eating baguettes) over unpaid war reparations and a fevered central banker who thought that inflation stemmed from not having enough paper cash, wiped out the middle class overnight. Wheelbarrows of cash for groceries? That really happened. Suicides spiking? Check.

And the ladies? Well... Biologically, women are drawn to men with power and resources. They like nice things, like sitting on couches eating bon-bons and not working jobs that will kill them. Consequently, they choose men who have power and resources because otherwise they have to work. It makes sense – somebody has to raise the kids, and if they spend all their time hunting mammoth, the kids will die. So, Wuma like Grug. Grug big strong. Grug bring food. Grug like Wuma because warm and make zug-zug. And Mortimer? His genes didn’t get passed down.

In Weimar Germany, however, all the thousands of years between Hans and Grug evaporated. Women, sensing the ship sinking, entered into Hypergamy Mode™. Stable accountant husbands toiling for stacks of worthless cash? Adios. Black-market speculators with coal or ham? Jackpot.

Prostitution boomed and I’m not going to get into the horrible details – you can look them up yourself, though I highly advise you not to. Economic desperation flipped the script and a moral and prosperous people disappeared. I think this time in history showed that most fräuleins were just three hot meals away from working the streets.

Chastity? Loyalty? Those were luxuries for men who could still afford to pay for dinner. The result was predictable: birth rates tanked, divorces doubled, and Berlin became a petri dish for STDs.

Act 2: 1924-1928 – Stabilization to Sizzle: By 1924, Germany put up the surrender flag again and rolled out the Rentenmark, a mortgage-backed currency that halted the fiscal freefall. Unemployment goes, down and wages climb 10% in 1928 alone. Golden Twenties! But the morality break from the hyperinflation remained. Berlin’s nightlife is a bisexual, androgynous fever dream. Divorces? Up 20 per 100 marriages. Abortions? From taboo to two-for-Tuesday.

Prostitutes? The 1927 Venereal Disease Law decriminalized prostitution, shifting it from being a cop problem to a social worker problem. Really, this was just formalizing the side-hustle economy. Society, or at least those little things we call morals, were ignored.

Leave the steady scientist for the jazz-club owner? Why not? Resources signaled survival, and with the past experiences, women valued power and money more than, well, value. Long-term vows were for suckers. Men, emasculated by inflation scars, either joined in the debauchery or brewed resentment in beer halls.

Act 3: Crash and Backlash (1929-1933 – Depression to Despot): Wall Street sneezed in October 1929 and Germany caught pneumonia. Unemployment hits 30%, and banks implode. The result? An insignificant party led by an Austrian painter rocketed from fringe to 37% of the vote in the 1932 elections. The promise? Crushed cabarets. Mandated motherhood. Homeownership, and the house is free after a certain number of kids. Oh, and most people don’t ask exactly what books were burned. Why the rise? Economics eroded trust and broke down traditional male-female relationships. This bred fury.

America’s Weimar Remix: Where are we now?: Fast-forward to the U.S. We’ve been doing inflation for years, since the creation of the Federal Reserve Bank®. Will we see hyperinflation? Almost certainly. There are two ways the debt will clear – either we pay it or we default on it. Want to take bets on which we do?

The morality failure is in play:
“Hot girl summers,”
Situationships,
Chastity is cringe,
Birth rates echo Berlin in the 1920s,
30% of Zoomers were aborted,
Female body counts are soaring, and
OnlyFans®.

OnlyFans© itself paints a picture of depravity: OnlyFans™ has over 3 million women willing to show you their naked body, most of whom earn less than $50 a month. Not only are they tramps, they’re cheap tramps. Femininity is utterly degraded: motherhood in a loving family is now considered oppressive, while being married in a loving relationship is oppression.

Are we in Act 1, Scene 2 – A Financial Puzzle, or Act 2, Scene 3 – The Hangover Before the Headache, or Act 3, Scene 1 – Enter the Man With the Plan?

I don’t know. I know it’s bad. 60%-80% of Gen Z men aren’t dating. Less than 30% of them identify with the Republican or Democratic parties. Video games and A.I. girlfriends aren’t going to replace actual wives, so the instability in society is growing, and quickly.

As I said at the top – history doesn’t repeat, but it surely does rhyme. The late Roman Republic and the Late Roman Empire are also parallels, and I could keep going. Bad economic decisions lead to the breakdown of human relationships. Those broken relationships lead to a change in government type. The good news? We won’t run out of wheelbarrows for the money. We don’t need to print it, just add a few ones and zeros into a program. Isn’t progress grand?"

"Prepare for Landing"
by Bill Bonner

Baltimore, Maryland - "AI is now not just an investment fad. It is also responsible for thousands of job losses. PennyGem: "AI Claims Another Victim as Amazon Executes World’s Largest Tech Layoff - 30,000 Eliminated In 1 Week"

In the stock market, AI marks the difference between a bull market and a bear market. It is also the difference between a capital investment boom...and a capital investment bust. And by adding capital investment figures to GDP, it has recently meant the difference between growth and recession.

But what does it really produce? The results so far aren’t good. An MIT study showed that the Mag7 companies had spent $560 billion on AI over the last 18 months. The payoff? These investments returned $35 billion in revenue, not profit. If the profit margin on revenues were 10% this would mean a rate of return of just 0.006%. So, it’s time to ask: AI...what are ye? Fish or fowl? Day or night? Good or bad?

First, Artificial Intelligence is very artificial. But there’s nothing very intelligent about it. Those huge data centers we hear so much about are huge for a reason, because they’re set up for electronic grunt work. In keeping with our attempts at reductio ad simplicitas (making things simple enough so even we can understand them) Large Language Models are merely word crunchers. They crunch zillions of them. They simply ask: what is most likely to come next? You say ‘dog.’ They give you ‘barks.’ That’s why what you get from ChatGPT, for example, seems so boring. It gives you what you would most expect.

But still, it can do some remarkable work. You ask: ‘Ten planes are preparing to land at JFK. What are the odds that one crashes?’ Here’s the answer from ChatGPT: To estimate the odds that one of ten planes will crash, we need to know the probability of a crash per landing. Let’s go step by step.

1. Estimate the crash probability per flight or landing.
According to aviation safety data:
The chance of a commercial airline accident (including nonfatal) is roughly 1 in 1 million flights.
The chance of a fatal crash is even lower — about 1 in 10 million flights (or 10−710^{-7}10−7).
Let’s use p=1×10−7p = 1 \times 10^{-7}p=1×10−7 as a conservative estimate for a crash per landing.

2. Probability that no plane crashes:
If each of the 10 planes lands independently:
P(no crashes)=(1−p)10P(\text{no crashes}) = (1 - p)^{10}P(no crashes)=(1−p)10
So:
P(no crashes)=(1−10−7)10≈1−10−6P(\text{no crashes}) = (1 - 10^{-7})^{10} \approx 1 - 10^{-6}P(no crashes)=(1−10−7)10≈1−10−6

3. Probability that at least one plane crashes:
P(at least one crash)=1−(1−p)10≈10−6P(\text{at least one crash}) = 1 - (1 - p)^{10} \approx 10^{-6}P(at least one crash)=1−(1−p)10≈10−6
That’s about 1 in a million odds that one of those 10 landings will crash.

4. Putting it in perspective:
Scenario:
Any 1 of 10 planes crashes
Approximate probability: 1×10−61 \times 10^{-6}1×10−6
Odds: 1 in 1,000,000
All land safely
Approximate probability: 0.9999990.9999990.999999
Odds: 99.9999%

✅ Answer: The odds that one of 10 scheduled planes will crash when landing at JFK are about 1 in a million — extremely unlikely.

What this shows us is that AI can put together logical arguments ...with nouns, verbs, and numbers just where they should be. This alone will be hugely important. There are millions of people who earn their living by doing these kinds of logical, routine, and ‘bounded’ activities. Truck drivers, for example. Most of their work involves only two binary decisions: fast or slow, right or left. And when you drive through a toll booth, you could stop your car and urinate on the booth...or simply take out your phone and have a conversation with your mother. But the common range of actions is much more restricted. You pay the toll. You get change. The barrier goes up.

There is nothing that takes much intelligence going on. Just math and routine language: “Here’s your change. Thank you.” The typical clerk gets a limited range of requests. And he has only a limited range of responses. No one turns to him for an opinion on the allegorical imagery in the "Faerie Queene".
Scene from "The Faerie Queene," by Edmund Spenser (1553-1599)

While the oddball challenge still arises, most routine work could be handled by some version of AI. This is true not only of toll booth clerks and paint salesmen; most of doctors’, lawyers’ and other professionals’ work could also be done - insofar that it is logical and predictable - by a creature without a heart.

An accountant, for example, is not even expected to have a heart. He’s not encouraged to let sentiment persuade his calculation...or to think ‘outside of the box.’ Instead, he’s meant to stay in the box. And when the task calls for adding two plus two, he’s supposed to get four...not five...not three. Not even 4.001. Just like a machine. A proper AI tool will get four exactly. Every time.

Which makes AI very unlike a real human being. Humans wander out of the box. This is how we get our art, music and literature. This is also how we get big disasters...and big breakthroughs. We drop the latex on the stove, by accident, and discover ‘vulcanized’ rubber. We go on vacation and leave a petri dish in the lab without a cover; when we return, we find that a blue mold has prevented growth of the bacteria. Penicillin, we call it.

So, in an effort to make AI more like human intelligence, programmers introduced a bit of randomness. Instead of always choosing the most likely next word...or even the most correct number...they allowed the machine to use some judgement of its own. This is what leads to the factual errors and ‘hallucinations’ that have troubled AI systems. Sometimes, they just make stuff up. Sometimes they come to the ‘wrong’ conclusion. Forbes: "Elon Musk Says Grok Will Be Fixed After Chatbot Sided with Sam Altman in Spat Over Potential OpenAI Lawsuit." The randomness feature is much appreciated by students. It makes their college essays look a little more like they wrote them themselves. But randomness is not cool if you’re landing a 737. More to come...

"Putin's Nuclear Poseidon To Hit US Like Tsunami?
What Russia's 'Super Weapon' Can Do"
"Russia has conducted its second nuclear-capable test in 10 days - this time of the Poseidon underwater “super weapon,” following the Burevestnik nuclear cruise missile trial. President Vladimir Putin announced the successful test of the Poseidon 2M39, calling it a revolutionary nuclear-powered torpedo capable of evading all existing defences. The Kremlin described it as a “strategic breakthrough,” signalling Moscow’s determination to revive the 21st-century arms race. The Poseidon, powered by a compact nuclear reactor, can reportedly travel thousands of miles underwater at high speeds and to extreme depths, carrying a warhead up to two megatons - 133 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Weighing over 90 tons and stretching nearly 60 feet in length, it is designed to trigger tsunami-like destruction along enemy coastlines. The weapon, known to NATO as Kanyon and to Russian engineers as Status-6, could be deployed aboard the Belgorod nuclear submarine. Watch for more details."

"The True Power of Russia's Tsunami Bomb"
"Mankind has reached a point in its destructive capabilities that it is literally beyond our comprehension. So what is it we really have to fear? The Poseidon (Russian: Посейдон, "Poseidon", GRAU index 2M39, NATO reporting name Kanyon), previously known by Russian codename Status-6 (Russian: Статус-6), is an autonomous, nuclear-powered unmanned underwater vehicle reportedly in production by Rubin Design Bureau, capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear warheads. The Poseidon is one of the six new Russian strategic weapons announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018."

"Russia Puts Advanced Sarmat
Nuclear Missile System On ‘Combat Duty’"

"Moscow has put into service an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile that Russian President Vladimir Putin has said would make Russia’s enemies “think twice” about their threats, according to reported comments by the head of the country’s space agency. Yuri Borisov, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, said Sarmat missiles have “assumed combat duty”, according to Russian news agency reports.

“The Sarmat strategic system has assumed combat alert posture,” the state-run TASS news agency quoted the Roscosmos chief as saying. “Based on experts’ estimates, the RS-28 Sarmat is capable of delivering a MIRVed warhead weighing up to 10 tonnes to any location worldwide, both over the North and South Poles,” TASS said in its report.

Putin said in February that the Sarmat – one of several advanced weapons in Russia’s arsenal, is deployed now. In 2022, some two months after Russian troops invaded Ukraine, Putin said the Sarmat would “reliably ensure the security of Russia from external threats and make those, who in the heat of aggressive rhetoric try to threaten our country, think twice”.

The Sarmat is an underground silo-based missile that Russian officials say can carry up to 15 nuclear warheads, though the United States military estimates its capacity to be 10 warheads. Known to NATO military allies by the codename “Satan”, the missile reportedly has a short initial launch phase, which gives little time for surveillance systems to track its takeoff.

Weighing more than 200 tons, the Sarmat has a range of some 18,000km (11,000 miles) and was developed to replace Russia’s older generation of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICMBs) that dated from the 1980s. Russia test-fired the Sarmat missile in April 2022 in the Plesetsk region of the country, located some 800km (almost 500 miles) north of Moscow, and the launched missiles hit targets on the Kamchatka peninsula, in Russia’s far east region."

"Do Not Shop This Weekend!
A Very Serious Warning"
"I have a serious warning for you all. The government shutdown is looming, SNAP benefits are on the line, and the chaos could escalate fast. If you're planning a weekend store trip, STOP. Protect yourself, protect your family, and stock up NOW. I’m hearing alarming reports about parking lot thefts and organized store raids. Don't take the risk - stay safe at home instead. With almost 42 million people potentially losing food assistance, tensions are rising. Imagine the mayhem if SNAP benefits are cut off. Food banks might help, but it's not enough for everyone. On top of that, big changes in the economy are happening - Amazon layoffs, bank mergers, skyrocketing costs, and more. This is the time to stay informed and prepared."

"3I/ATLAS Was Here 48 Years Ago -
NASA Just Found the Signal"

"This Astro Dynasty investigation connects a 1977 radio signal to 3I/ATLAS, an interstellar object. The James Webb Space Telescope reveals surprising data, aligning the object's light patterns with the "Wow! signal's" frequency. This analysis explores the possibility of synchronized interstellar communication. They thought 3I/ATLAS was a new interstellar visitor until the data proved it had been here before. In 1977, a faint radio pulse near the hydrogen line the same frequency used in SETI research flashed for 72 seconds and vanished. Now, nearly 48 years later, the James Webb Space Telescope has confirmed a chilling connection: the mysterious signal aligns perfectly with 3I/ATLAS’s trajectory.

Was it just coincidence… or the first transmission from something not of this world? In this investigation, we break down what NASA’s latest data reveals the spectral fingerprints, the 48-year timing cycle, and the decoded rhythm that ties 3I/ATLAS to the legendary “Wow! Signal.” If the pattern holds, this may be the first evidence of synchronized interstellar communication ever detected. Stay till the end because what Webb saw next could change how we understand time, distance, and the way the universe keeps its secrets."

“The southern Milky Way appears spectacular in this composite image taken from Mangaia, the most southerly of the Cook Islands. Few sources of light pollution exist here, home to only 500 people.
The two bright stars at the Milky Way’s center are Alpha (left) and Beta Centauri. They point to Crux the Southern Cross. Near the horizon, two of the satellite galaxies of our Milky Way, the Small (left) and Large Magellanic Clouds are easy to spot.”
