"Americans Are Moving Into Their Cars!
And It’s Spreading All Over The Country"
"Americans are living in their cars, and many of them still go to work every day. In this video, people show what that life looks like: a soldier sleeping in her car on base after her housing pay went to her ex, a homeless teen who showers at Planet Fitness and works DoorDash, a woman living in her car with two cats because an apartment averaging $1,600 requires $4,800 a month in income, a first night in a church parking lot that ended with a truck's high beams, a 26-year-old in San Diego sleeping in his trunk, a parent who lost a job, got hit with $15,000 in legal costs and moved into the car with a son, and a family kicked out over their dog who will live in the car while still working. We look at why housing has outrun paychecks, what it takes to get through each day from a parked car, and how to cut household costs before it comes to that."
