"The blue wave did, in fact, roll across America on Tuesday. In a dramatic midterm rebuke of President Donald Trump, formerly Republican Senate seats in Ohio, Texas and South Carolina now appear headed into Democratic hands.
So what will that mean for the final two years of Trump’s presidency? It means he will no longer control Congress as he did during the first two years of this term - two years in which he squandered unified Republican power and led the country into war. It means Democrats will have the votes to block much of his remaining agenda, launch aggressive investigations and potentially begin impeachment proceedings.
Former Congressman Dennis Kucinich told us on Tuesday that Democratic leaders have already declared that they will not pursue impeachment against President Trump. He predicts that history will repeat what happened in 2006 when Democrats regained control of Congress. Rather than ending President George W. Bush’s war, they declared that they would continue to fund it.
We will probably get the same now: a Democratic Congress that continues funding America’s wars while directing its fiercest opposition toward the personality of the president. With control of Congress shifting and the political landscape transformed, the question is whether Democrats will challenge Trump’s policies or simply challenge Trump himself. It's not a big mystery. Democrats will keep the war going. We are about to enter political theater at its worst."
