"Sunspot AR4366 has exploded into existence and is now directly facing Earth. In just 24 hours, this monster sunspot has unleashed 27 solar flares including an X8.1-class flare - the strongest since October 2024. This isn’t a drill, and what we’re witnessing could be the precursor to something catastrophic.
What’s Happening: Sunspot AR4366 appeared out of nowhere over the weekend, rapidly expanding to nearly 10 times Earth’s width. It’s now roughly half the size of the infamous Carrington Event sunspot from 1859 - the most destructive geomagnetic storm in recorded history. This region carries an unstable delta-class magnetic field, the most volatile magnetic structure on the sun, and it’s showing no signs of calming down.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) is currently racing toward Earth and could deliver a glancing blow on February 5th, potentially triggering geomagnetic storms.
Why This Matters: A Carrington-level event today could wipe out satellites, collapse GPS and navigation systems, trigger widespread electrical grid failures, and cause up to $2.6 trillion in damages in the United States alone.
