"The pandemic budget crisis: State and local governments across the U.S. are facing a severe budget crisis because of the coronavirus pandemic. To compensate, they’re cutting back on health care, education, unemployment benefits and more, at a time when those programs are in high demand. Economists warn that could prolong the recession. Local leaders are hoping for aid from the next relief bill in Congress.
In other virus developments:
• India has surpassed Brazil as the country with the second-highest number of cases, after the United States. Below are maps of case counts from around the world.
• Sales of used cars have taken off during the pandemic, as many people try to avoid public transit. That’s driving the price up: In July, the average value of used cars jumped more than 16 percent."
9/8/20, 7:39 AM ET: The coronavirus pandemic has sickened more than 27,341,800 people, according to official counts, including 6,317,221 Americans.
